US ISPs host terrorist sites

p2pnet news | politics:- Sites run by organised terrorists are cited by the US administration as among the most dangerous threats to the well-being of America and Americans.

But, “all Islamist/Jihadi websites are hosted directly or through subservers by Western – primarily American – Internet Service Providers (ISPs),” says the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI).

The revelation came during a briefing on Capitol Hill hosted by Gary Ackerman, chairman of the House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Middle East and South Asia, and Mike Pence, ranking member of the Subcommittee on the Middle East and South Asia, says the MEMRI.

But, stressed an MEMRI study which comprised the basis for the briefing, thanks to a huge Arabic language gap, “most – if not all – ISPs” are unaware of the content on sites they’re hosting.

“The Internet serves as a tool in the military training of jihad fighters by circulating military guidebooks on weaponry, battle tactics, explosives manufacture, and other topics,” says Institute, giving Al-Qaeda’s online military magazine Mu’askar Al-Battar (The Al-Battar Training Camp), published by the Military Committee of the Mujahideen in the Arabian Peninsula, as an example.

Formerly on www.qa3edoon.com, it’s now been taken down.

But still very much online at http://www.kjawd.blogspot.com/ at 9:56 am Pacific was a blog, “dedicated to the legacy of the former leader of Al-Qaeda in Iraq, Abu Mus’ab Al-Zarqawi, which includes Al-Zarqawi messages and videos”.

Also still available on Microsoft’s portal MSN was http://groups.msn.com/Hizbullahh/page16.msnw, a site posted by a pro-Hizbullah group with speeches by Nasrallah, information on Hizbullah operations and links to other Hizbullah sites.

Now, as a public service, the institute is offering help to ISPs who want to know about the content of the sites they’re hosting, “so they can make an informed decision on whether they want to continue hosting these sites”.

The MEMRI also has a YouTube video of material posted on Islamist/Jihadi sites.
