Xbox 360 HD DVD price cut
p2pnet news | games:- Will a $20 price cut for the Xbox 360 HD DVD Player make a difference?
Microsoft thinks so, dropping the price of the add-on, developed to take on Sony’s PlayStation3, to $180.
That’ll be the price from August 1 and Bill and the Boyz are also sweetening the deal with five free HD DVD movies for anyone buying an Xbox 360 HD DVD Player between then and September 30.
“To promote the HD DVD versions of 300 and Heroes: Season 1, Microsoft unveiled exclusive content for Xbox LIVE Marketplace,” says gamefreaks365.
“Xbox LIVE will offer 300 on demand in HD starting Aug. 14. In advance of the street date for the Heroes: Season 1 HD DVD boxed set, Xbox LIVE members will be able to download for free the show’s pilot episode in high definition for a limited time. Members will also be able to download trailers, teaser scenes and other promotional materials highlighting the Heroes: Season 1 boxed set on HD DVD.”
The free HD DVD movie offer was the same as that offered by Toshiba, laying out titles including Apollo 13, Seabiscuit, Constantine, Casablanca, We Were Soldiers, U-571, Blazing Saddles, and more, says PC Advisor.
The PS3, which contains a Blu-ray Disc player, now costs $500 (£250) in North America with a 60GB hard-disk drive. A newer version of the PS3 with an 80GB hard-disk will sell for $600 (£300) when it launches in August, says the story6, adding:
“The Xbox 360, on the other hand, sells for $399 (£200) with a 20GB hard drive, while the 120GB Xbox 360 Elite costs $479 (£240). Neither of the Xbox prices includes the HD DVD player.”
