Is cellphone TV dead in Britain?

p2pnet news | tv:- BT has closed its Movio service for Virgin Mobile users after signing fewer than 10,000 subscribers, says Guardian Unlimited.

Now, “3 indulges in some trumpet blowing following reports of BT Movio’s closure,” says Mobile Entertainment.

“The UK operator is keen to big up its own mobile TV and video services in the wake of BT’s announcement last week that its Movio DAB-IP based broadcast mobile TV service – which is live with Virgin Mobile – is to close,” says the story.

Cellphone tv might not be dead in the UK, “but after BT’s decision last week to close its Movio service for Virgin Mobile, it is certainly in intensive care – and operators have shovelled a lot of money that they won’t recoup into it,” observes Guardian Unlimited, adding:

“Yet it might be rescued by the European Commission, which is preparing to mandate a European standard for mobile TV – just as it did for mobile phones by enforcing the use of the GSM standard.”

Channels 3 offers include BBC1, BBC3 and ITV1, with access starting at 49p a day. It also allows customers to access TV from their set-top’s with a Slingbox app, adds Mobile Entertainment.
