Lucky and Flo strike again!

p2pnet news | MPAA news:- When p2pnet first wrote about Lucky and Flo, then Hollywood’s two newest intellectual property enforcement agents, we had several emails congratulating us on the spoof.

That’s because Lucky and Flo are Labrador retrievers.

It looked like farce of the finest kind but unbelievably, Lucky and Flo are real and equally unbelievably, the mainstream media are lapping up Hollywood’s claims that the two kanine kopyright kops are performing wonders, using their olfactory skills to pinpoint kounterfeit discs.

On second thoughts, maybe it’s not so surprising that the corporate press swallow the ludicrous Hollywood sniffer dog puff pieces whole. After all, they routinely regurgitate MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) ‘piracy’ figures as if they’re genuine statistics from reliable sources.

“Lucky and Flo are in the news again,” p2pnet posted back in December last year going on:

They’ve been trotted out in Dubai and Malaysia, generating instant press attention which is, of course, their primary function. Apparently, also on hand were interested parties from more than 10 countries, including Holland, the UK and South Africa.

Because the two labrador retrievers can achieve feats unequalled by any customs agent.

They’re able to detect optical discs by mere scent alone.

Lucky and Flo can’t sniff out the difference between CDs and DVDs, burned and replicated discs, legitimate and pirate discs, or anything else.

But never mind. Hollywood’s MPAA has never been big on accuracy or honesty, and the Lucky and Flo stories look good in the ever cooperative corporate media.

Now the Hollywood hounds are featuring in another MPAA spectacular.

Says the spindustry organ, “Malaysian enforcement officers, with the assistance of Lucky and Flo, today raided a suspect pirate optical disc production factory …”

And guess where. Yup. Kuala Lumpur.

“Lucky and Flo once again proved their mettle in the duo’s maiden factory raid,” says the fluff piece, continuing:

“It took over 22 men from the Ministry of Domestic Trade & Consumer Affairs (MDTCA) and Motion Picture Association (MPA) representatives to break down the factory doors. The authorities also detained 4 suspects found on the factory floor for further questioning.”

Lucky and Flo had, “done it once again,” burbled the MPA(A)’s Mike Ellis.

Is it a coincidence the dogs aren’t used in North America, do you think?

Meanwhile, stay tuned as Lucky and Flo continue to strike terror into the hearts of Asian pirates.
