Microsoft drops Xbox 360 price
p2pnet news | games:- Will a $20 price cut for the Xbox 360 HD DVD Player make a difference? – p2pnet wondered last month, going on:

“Microsoft thinks so, dropping the price of the add-on, developed to take on Sony’s PlayStation3, to $180. That’ll be the price from August 1 and Bill and the Boyz are also sweetening the deal with five free HD DVD movies for anyone buying an Xbox 360 HD DVD Player between then and September 30.”
To enhance this, starting tomorrow, the Bill and the Boyz are knocking $50 off their Xbox 360, bringing it to $350.
In an attempt to impart a positive spin on what amounts to an admission that the competition has Microsoft worried, “The fact that we have been able to keep our launch price longer than any other console while retaining our leadership position demonstrates that consumers believe in the value of Xbox 360,” says the companies Mitch Koch.
The Xbox 360 Core System will now cost about $280, and the Xbox 360 Elite, $450.
Does this also mean price changes across the water?
SPOnG says it contacted Microsoft UK and was told, “We have not announced any pricing changes in Europe.”
“Come on Microsoft Europe!” – says SPOnG. “Otherwise Sony’ll knock off another few quid and Nintendo will start to give the Wii away in cereal packets …”
Meanwhile, the Xbox 360 Halo 3 Special Edition Console will be going out in September, all camoed up in an “authentic Spartan green-and-gold finish,” with an estimated retail price of $400.
Authentic according to what? Looks nice, though
It’ll include a matching Xbox 360 Wireless Controller, Xbox 360 20GB hard drive, Xbox 360 Headset, an Xbox 360 Play and Charge Kit, says Microsoft.
BUT – Halo 3 isn’t included.
