Malay rapper’s ’seditious’ lyrics
p2pnet news | Politics:- A Malaysian rapper is in trouble for using what the government views as seditious lyrics.
Close to 600,000 people had watched Namewee’s six-minute YouTube video when we went for a look at 10:59 AM Pacific.
His lyrics are a, “racially provocative rap video of the national anthem on YouTube that has enraged many ethnic Malays, officials said Wednesday,” according to e.sinchew-i.com, which goes on:
“His action is unacceptable. By distorting the national anthem and using (vulgar) words, he has shown disrespect for the country,” Deputy Internal Security Minister Fu Ah Kiow told The Associated Press.
“He called the video an abuse of Internet freedom.”
Namewee is a 24-year-old Malaysian student at Taiwan’s Ming Chuan University, says AHN, adding:
“According to authorities, if the student will be found guilty, he will be punished and serve three years in jail and pay a fine of $1,400.
“Malaysian authorities are also alarmed that in such a short period of time, CD versions of the song were being sold secretly in bazaars and night markets in Kuala Lumpur.”
