Ok, I see what you're getting at, Jon. I totally agree that they are misusing public resources. What's wrong with spending there own money on protecting themselves?

I do wonder how the MPAA gets away with crowing about the latest biggest-ever box office supersmash and then go on about some fictitious devastation and ruin in the same sentence.

"I wholly agree counterfeiters and the like should be busted. And I’ve said so many times in p2pnet." Yup ya have. :)

I wholly agree counterfeiters and the like should be busted. And I've said so many times in p2pnet. (I've also said it's wrong to lump file sharing, together with counterfeiting, or piracy, or whenever you want to call it.)

In this story, I'm not saying the bad guys shouldn't be dealt with. However, I do object to government, police and other scarce public resources being used by the entirely self-interested entertainment industry in response to grossly inflated claims of devastation and ruin. And it bugs me when I see the big labels and studios getting away with it time after time.

Lucky and Flo are gimmicks used to keep the farce rolling along, and that's all. But that's just my humble opinion :)

Cheers!!

"Of course, Lucky and Flo can’t tell the difference between CDs and DVDs, burned and replicated discs, legitimate and pirate discs, or much else."

That's a pretty useless statement; the dogs are obviously quite effective, or why would they increase their use?

All they have to do is sniff out DVD's - doesn't matter what type - and the customs officials will check whether they are legitimate or pirate. Not exactly rocket science, is it? Also, busting criminal pirates who make copies to SELL as legitimate product or hooky sales on a street corner SHOULD be busted.

I normally agree with what Jon has to say here, regarding persecution of p2p users by Big Media, but he's way off base here. These are commercial pirates and criminal gangs, not p2p users.
