Google gets starry-eyed
p2pnet news | Advertising:- Google is aiming stars with its new Google Earth project.
Called, simply, Sky, it’ll let users, “fly around and zoom in, exposing increasingly detailed imagery of some 100 million stars and 200 million galaxies,” says the New York Times,
Cool.
But, “What has not been widely reported is that a new University of Washington astronomy professor played a key role in the development of the product,” observes the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, adding:
“Andrew Connolly, who arrived at the UW earlier this month as an associate professor of astronomy, served as a technical lead on Sky.”
Says Google:
“Zoom in to distant galaxies hundreds of millions of light years away, explore the constellations, see the planets in motion, witness a supernova explosion; it’s like having a giant, virtual telescope at your command – your own personal planetarium!”
How how long before we see a Google advertisement plastered across Venus?
Just kidding. But you can be 100% sure advertisements will be tied in there somewhere, somehow

I don’t actually mind adverts by google. The company produces some excellent applications, and they provide them free. They are also quite innovative. I for one will be downloading this when it’s available.
Google also champions / supports open source and free software, which benefits everyone. I would rather have a million Googles than one Microsoft, and i’m sure i’m not the only one.
