iPhone unlocked: twice!
p2pnet news | Mobiles:- For a brief period, the only way you could use an iPhone was if you opened an Apple iTunes account (what intelligent person would want to do that?) and subscribed to AT$T.

Not many. The bulk of music lovers steer well clear of anything to do with the Big 4 labels, Warner Music, EMI, Vivendi Universal and Sony BMG, and everyone associated with them.
Meanwhile, S. Jobs & Co had their iPhone locked up tight with another of Apple’s chastity belts.
An interesting aspect of the never-ending byplay between ‘consumers,’ as the corporate world contemptuously calls the people who keep it alive, and sellers is: the former think they know a lot more than they actually do, while the latter are unquestionably streets ahead in terms of intelligence and technical ability.
That’s why 17-year-old George Hotz was able to unlock the iPhone.
He put it up for sale on eBay but unsurprisingly, eBay didn’t leave it alone for long.
“I was forced to end the listing early due to a total lack of cooperation from ebay,” Hotz posted. But no worries.
“Terry Daidone, the founder of Certicell contacted me this morning, and offered to make a trade for the iPhone,” says George on his site, adding:
I traded it for a sweet Nissan 350Z and 3 8GB iPhones. I will be sending the iPhones, unlocked if they wish, to jpetrie(the first donater), gray(the reversing genius), and iProof(who is truly amazing at finding stuff online) Thanks a lot everyone. I leave for college tomorrow, and this has been a great end to a great summer.
If I ever do anything more with the iPhone, it’ll definitely be posted here.
Also I contacted iphonesimfree and offered to verify on this blog their claims of a software unlock. No response yet…
‘No need to solder’
Not only but also, “It gives us great pleasure to announce the worlds first (and only) software driven sim unlocking service for the iPhone,” declare the iPhoneSimFree guys.
“No need to open your phone. No need to solder.”
And, “To silence any doubters out there, we are welcoming publications from around the world to apply to receive their iPhones(tm) unlocked FREE OF CHARGE,” they state, going on:
“Chose the provider you want, use any SIM card from any network provider in any country
“No more outrageous roaming charges. When traveling simply pick the local provider of your choice and change your sim card.
“Poor network coverage no longer an issue, use the network provider best suited to your region
“Save money! A favorable exchange rate makes for excellent value for money when importing.”
On their offer to supply code have their iPhione unliocked for free the, “top three applications will receive a free un-lock within the next 48 hours, which will be soon followed by the commercial launch of the software for public consumption,” says IphoneSimFree, adding:
“Individual per unit licenses will be available starting next week. We are currently opening up our mail for bulk purchase enquiries of 500 licenses and above.”
That leaves one important question begging:
Why would anyone, Macolytes and those who just have to have the first of anything aside, want an iPhone in the first place?
Stay tuned.
