iPhone unlocked: thrice!
p2pnet news | Mobiles:- Apple and AT&T defeat technologies seem to be arriving on the scene thick and fast.
“Set Your iPhone Free From AT&T,” says iphoneunlocking.com.
Has a certain ring to it, n’est ce pa? And one might add, ‘Why grapple with Apple?’
Enter iphoneunlocking.com which boasts, “We specialize in remote mobile phone unlocking, and having generated over 2.9 million unlock codes since 2002, makes us one of the most experienced and accomplished online mobile phone unlocking services in the industry.”
And it says it was, “poised and ready to release remote software unlocking services for the iphone today at 12 noon EST”.
Sadly, however, that didn’t happen. The dreaded CIS (copyright infringement spectre) was raised, says a notice on iPhone Unlocking, iphoneunlocking.com’s parent:
The sale of unlocking codes is on hold after the company received a telephone call from a Menlo Park, California, law firm at approximately 2:54 a.m. this morning (GMT).
After saying they were phoning on behalf of AT&T, the law firm presented issues such as copyright infringement and illegal software dissemination. Uniquephones is taking legal advice to ascertain whether AT&T was sending a warning shot or directly threatening legal action. The logistics of different continents as well as it being a weekend factors into how the situation develops.
Until an assessment is made of the potential of legal action, Uniquephones is unable to release the unlocking software for sale. The company spokesperson also said that the company would also be evaluating what to eventually do with the software should they be legally denied the right to sell it. A substantial delay caused by any legal action would render the unlocking software a less valuable commodity as well as creating unforeseen security issues for the company.
Meanwhile, why not forget $Phone and get yourself a mobile which isn’t festooned with $pple and AT$T DRM bullsh$t: buy something which’ll be a lot less expensive and which won’t require you to sign on to $Tunes or lock yourself into two-year AT$T contract?
But if you absolutely must have an iPhone, George Hotz, being billed as the next DVD Jon, and iPhoneSimFree have already made their indelible marks.
Definitely stay tuned.
