ISPs as copyright cops
p2pnet news | Politics:- Congressman ‘Hollywood Howard’ Berman (right) wants ISPs to be upfront entertainment cartel copyright cops.

The entertainment industries have been leading contributors to Berman since 1993, topping up his coffers with amounts totalling close to $1,000,000, says OpenSecrets.org.
Now Berman has told a US Chamber of Commerce “antipiracy panel” in Hollywood he’ll introduce legislation which if enacted, “would mark a significant change in federal law by making Internet service providers responsible for piracy on their networks, not just those who download or share the content,” says Variety, going on:
Berman … indicated that under the legislation there would be a phase-in period for ISPs to notify subscribers. “Initially, it would be a voluntary program,” he added.
Berman indicated he’d introduce the bill with Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.) through the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts, the Internet and Intellectual Property.
Berman and Conyers are also leading entertainment cartel efforts to turn American universities and other schools across the country into copyright enforcement centres.
