Nintendo’s UK triumph
p2pnet news | Games:- CVG thinks the champagne corks will be popping in Nintendo Land because of Wii’s success in Britain.
“In nine months, the console has sold over one million units, making it the fastest selling console on these shores ever – say figures compiled by the official stat crunchers at ChartTrackm” it says, also observing:
To put it into perspective, PS2 topped one million sales in 50 weeks, the Xbox 360 60 weeks in the UK.
But they shouldn’t get too carried away, suggests Bloomberg News.
“Nintendo Co., projecting record earnings on sales of the Wii game console, may see its stock slide as Sony Corp. and
Microsoft Corp. counter with price cuts and easy-to-play games,” it says.
Wii “big hitters” Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3, “just around the corner,” will, “inevitably further drive console sales in the run up to Christmas and give the hardcore players something to shout about,” says CVG.
However, the competition, “armed with machines suited for faster and more complex games and graphics, is fighting back by slashing prices and introducing easy-to-play titles to regain share in the $39 billion industry”.
It quotes analyst Pelham Smithers as saying, “This Christmas, Wii will win. But not to the same extent they’ve been winning.
“Next year, the playing field will level even more.”
