Bob Marley family says to sue Universal, Verizon - Reuters

The family of late reggae singer Bob Marley said on Thursday they will sue Universal Music Group and Verizon Wireless for using the iconic pop star’s name, likeness and image without permission. Fifty Six Hope Road Music Ltd, which is owned by the Marley family, said in a news release that Universal Music had entered an agreement with Verizon Wireless that granted the U.S. mobile service provider the right to utilize Bob Marley’s name, likeness and image to promote a new set of ringtones.

NBC Universal, unable to come to an agreement with Apple on pricing, has decided not to renew its contract to sell digital downloads of television shows on iTunes. Earthlink bows out of San Francisco Wi-Fi deal - Associated Press

The financially struggling Earthlink Inc. on Wednesday bowed out of a deal to join Google Inc. in providing free wireless Internet access throughout San Francisco, according to the mayor’s office. Earthlink Chief Executive Rolla Huff told Mayor Gavin Newsom during a telephone call “they were not going to be able to fulfill their end of the bargain,” said Nathan Ballard, Newsom’s spokesman. “Mr. Huff made it clear it wasn’t going to happen with Earthlink; they are getting out of the Wi-Fi business.”
