Chinese military hacks Pentagon
p2pnet news | Security:- Chinese military hackers have successfully penetrated the Pentagon’s computer network, says the Financial Times.
In fact, “Computer hacking seems to have become yet another Chinese growth industry,” the story suggests, going on:
“A few days after developments suggesting Chinese hackers had compromised German government computer systems,” the Pentagon had to close down part of its unclassified computer system, “after it was penetrated by hackers apparently from the People’s Liberation Army”.
These follow reported cyber-espionage attempts by Chinese hackers against other governments, including the UK’s, says the FT.
“The PLA has demonstrated the ability to conduct attacks that disable our system,” it has a former US official saying.
And another person “familiar with the event” said there’s a “very high level of confidence … trending towards total certainty” that the PLA was responsible.
US and Chinese militaries are widely assumed to conduct computer espionage on each other, adds the story.
