NBC swaps Apple for Amazon
p2pnet news | TV:- With the $-inspired spat between Apple and NBC Universal echoing loudly in the background, the latter says it’ll instead sell TV shows for download at Amazon.

“Starting Sept. 10, Amazon Unbox customers can download for free the pilot episodes of new NBC shows before they air on television,” state NBC and Amazon, according to Bloomberg News.
NBC refused to renew its agreement with iTunes, “after Apple balked at paying fees that it said would more than double the wholesale price for each NBC TV episode,” said MarketWatch.
Now, “The stakes are high for both sides,” says Reuters. “The media industry needs to court new viewers as interest in watching digital entertainment explodes.”
Amazon is, “somebody who understands the wholesale-retail relationships and understands the need for wholesalers to price their content flexibly,” Bloomberg has Jean-Briac Perrette, president of NBC Universal Digital Distribution, stating in an obvious dig at Apple.
“Last week NBC unveiled a Web-based network for films and TV shows called Hulu that it plans to start in October with Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp,” it adds.
‘Hulu’ means ‘butt‘ in Indonesian.

Too bad for Apple. I just came from NewsVisual’s article on the subject (http://www.newsvisual.com/newsvisual/2007/09/connections-w-1.html) and it seems like NBC was able to take advantage of some of its corporate ties to Amazon to make the switch.
