NetApps sues Sun
p2pnet news | Product News:- Network Appliance is suing Sun Microsystems for unspecified compensatory damages and is also demanding an injunction to stop Sun from developing or distributing products based on its ZFS file system technology.
It claims infringed on seven patents and released them under an open-source license, says the Mercury News, going on:
“Dave Hitz, NetApps’s founder and executive vice president, said the lawsuit was filed largely because Sun 18 months ago ‘aggressively demanded’ cross-licensing fees related to the Write Anywhere File Layout (WAFL) file-system technology included in ZFS.”
Cross-licensing talks were halted in April after Sun claimed NetApp’s use of WAFL infringed on Sun patents, he states.

I dont think SUN would have done anything of this sort….the company has the most intellect minds of the software industry.I dont believe in this plot. Well, I think by now Sun is preparing for the response of the sort that would shook the NetApps suit.
Its always the case that the two technologies work on the same grounds and logic and aim the same target, what should be the difference is in the complexity of the performance.
And this is where Sun is going to defend itself.
