Teen cellphone ban in California?
p2pnet news | Mobiles:- The way things are going, Californian teenagers under the age of 18 may not be allowed to use mobiles – hands-free or not – while while they’re driving.
“Senate Bill 33, sponsored by Sen. Joe Simitian, D-Palo Alto, makes it an infraction for youths under 18 to use a cell phone, pager, text-messaging device or laptop while driving,” says MediaNews, going on:
“It was approved by a 62-5 vote, but must now go back to the Senate for a final vote on technical amendments made in the Assembly before heading to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who must sign or veto it within 30 days.”
Similar laws, “are already on the books in 13 states and the District of Columbia, and similar legislation is pending in 16 other states,” it adds.
The story doesn’t say if bans targeting drivers suffering from age-related infirmities are also envisaged.
