Sherman is, of course, one of Warner Music, EMI, Vivendi Universal and Sony BMG’s most effective distortionists, a millionaire lawyer and reality adjustment specialist who may be their longest serving spokesman in North America.

But when I posted Hudgens nude: full frontal faux pas, the hits started accumulating almost immediately.

Vanessa Hudgens is a teeny Disney star. And who really cares if she’s nekked or not?

Cary Sherman, on the other hand ….

I digress, however.

Unscrupulous corporate bullies

Much earlier I’d posted Judge slams RIAA ‘boilerplate, a really important item from Recording Industry vs The People’s Ray Beckerman and as I write this (1:54 pm Pacific), the hits score is 216 for Beckerman and 4,332 for Hudgens (and still climbing like a rocket).

Makes you wonder, dunnit?

But there’s hope yet.

In p2pnet’s most-read posts over the last 30 days, images of a naked purple dinosaur beat the naked Hudgens (although frankly, I don’t expect that to last ) but in the number 1 and 2 spots are:

• RIAA named in first class action (by far)
• Tanya Andersen v RIAA gains strength.

They’ve been in the lead positions for quite a while. But isn’t it revealing when stories about a nude Disney teen eclipse news about the multi-billion dollar Big 4 who, in close to a decade, have failed to even begin to lock onto the fact they’re now operating in the digital 21st century, not the physical 1970s, or to understand the people who keep them rich and fat are for the first time ever gaining the upper hand?

CDs are slowly and very obviously dying and the bizarre music spindustry sue ‘em all marketing campaign, with Sherman front and centre, has never shown any signs of being effective.

To the contrary, every day music lovers – the new music elite who’ll have absolutely nothing to do with the Big 4 – are streaming in their hundreds and thousands away from the overpriced corporate download operations such as iTunes to the free P2P networks and sites run by musicians themselves, and to businesses being set up by steadily growing numbers of independents who understand you don’t win customers by suing them.

Hudgens may rule for today, but she’ll be gone tomorrow —— and so will Warner Music, EMI, Vivendi Universal and Sony BMG who’ve been making a mockery of the axiom The Customer is Always Right, thinking they could get away with it forever.
