Lindsay Lohan: I’m an addict

p2pnet news view | Music:- A judge has refused to dismiss part of a lawsuit against singer Lindsay Lohan over a 2005 accident in which her car collided with a van.

The California Highway Patrol decided busboy Raymundo Ortega caused the crash by making an illegal U-turn, but he sued Lohan and is now demanding at least $200,000 in damages, says Associated Press, going on:.

“Ortega’s suit contends that Lohan was fleeing paparazzi and was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.”

Last month, “Lohan agreed to spend a day in jail and complete a drug treatment program after pleading guilty or no contest to misdemeanor drunken driving and cocaine charges stemming from arrests earlier this year,” says AP.

Paris Hilton generated the same kinds of headlines as Lohan when she spent a brief period in jail for drunk-driving after her licence had been suspended.

Both girls – because that’s what they are – received special treatment due to their celebrity status, said numerous reports.

They probably did. But that’s not the problem.

The problem is: they’re products of the venal corporate entertainment money machine and alcohol and drugs are just part of the deal.

Is living in fishbowl under constant pressure to perform, perform, perform any kind of life? Getting smashed and/or stoned is, for many people in the public eye, the only way to release the non-stop pressure.

Lohan, and all the other celebrities young and old who get land in trouble because of booze and drugs are victims of a wholly corrupt system which insists they play a role.

They’re encouraged to be larger than life. It’s good for bidnes.

“In a statement, Lohan said: ‘It is clear to me that my life has become completely unmanageable because I am addicted to alcohol and drugs’,” says the BBC.

Addiction is a disease, not a social problem, and dealing with it is a hard road to ride for anyone.

But it’s particularly tough for kids.

Jon people like her do drugs cause they nothing better to do with their time. Addiction isnt a disease its just a poor excuse for someone’s poor habits.

    You’re dead wrong.

I had my first drink when I was 13, started on drugs a couple of years later and didn’t stop until I was 45. I was lying on gurney in a Toronto emergency ward after an(other) OD, and they’d pretty well written me off as dead. But even after that I didn’t stop for a further six months and when I finally broke through, it was thanks to the Donwood addiction centre and a lot Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

    Cheers!

PS – And while I’m on the subject, I’ve just realised this year marks my 20th anniversary of being clean and sober, and it feels great!

I truly and sincerely hope Lohan and all the others like her don’t have to go through what I went through before getting straight.

    Cheers!

Jon, so you’re 65 or over?

  5. Jon Says:

I’m a little more than 65.5. I was born in February, 1942, in London, England, three years before the end of World War II. Lots of bombs going off ;)

As I say here http://www.p2pnet.net/story/10700 “I’m just one old guy … living in a tiny town on Vancouver Island off the coast of British Columbia in Canada ….”

    Cheers!

Link doesn’t work. I pictured you younger.

  7. Jon Says:

The link’ll work now – there was a comma in the way.

    “I pictured you younger.”

Yeh, well, I’m a serious case of arrested development ;)

    Cheers!
