Google aims for the moon
p2pnet news | Advertising:- Is Google planning on developing the moon as a huge advertising billboard in space?

It’s already capitalised on Google Earth and now it’s taking its interest a serious stage further by sponsoring Lunar exploration.
And as the world knows, Google never does anything unless there’s an advertising hook attached somewhere.
It, “hopes to fuel a new technological revolution by sponsoring the Google Lunar X Prize, which would award as much as $30 million in prizes for landing unmanned rovers on the moon and having them perform certain tasks,” says the Los Angeles Times.
The group, “whose $10 million prize spurred privately financed rocketeers to send a small piloted craft to the cusp of space in 2004 has issued a new challenge: an unmanned moon shot,” says the New York Times.
The ‘Google Lunar X Prize’ was announced yesterday, calling for entrants to, “land a rover on the moon that will be able to travel at least 550 yards and send high-resolution video, still images and other data back home.”
But Google isn’t alone.
“Carnegie Mellon University immediately announced that a roboticist on its faculty, William L. Whittaker, would be pulling together a team to seek the prize,” says the story, addding:
“The $20 million grand prize will be available until Dec. 31, 2012, and then will drop to $15 million for two years. The contest would be likely to end after that time, though Google and the foundation would be able to extend it.
“The new contest follows the path of the original Ansari X Prize, which was won by SpaceShipOne, a manned spacecraft designed by Burt Rutan`s Scaled Composites and financed by Paul Allen, a co-founder of Microsoft.”

Great ! Google has jumped into the space race. Alot of activity of late even P2Pnet posting news on
some new propulsion engine concept. Bae has propulsion using a light propulsion system and there is a confererence
slated in DC this year looking for radical concepts that can be used for the next 50 years,,implying NASA
and others really getting serious about interplanetary and interstellar travel.
Dr Hawkins says if we dont find a solution we are dead. I dont know about the rest of you but I would
like my kids and their kids………to live long and prosper.

“And as the world knows, Google never does anything unless thereâs an advertising hook attached somewhere.”
I’m sorry, but this is a fallacious statement. Heard of summer of code? gmail? docs? picasa? . Google provides many services free of charge and advertising. This hate campaign against google is quite tiresome.
