California drivin’: no phones for teens

p2pnet news | Mobiles:- “Flanked by purple-clad student government representatives, the governor sat down at a desk in the school’s parking lot to sign a bill prohibiting anyone under 18 from using cell phones, pagers, text-messaging devices or other electronic gadgets while driving.”

Said governor is none other than California’s Arnold Schwarzenneger, quoted by Mercury News.

“Schwarzenegger’s signing ceremony in Redwood City took place almost a year to the day after he approved legislation that bars all drivers, regardless of age, from using hand-held cell phones while navigating the road,” says the Copley News Service. “But the new law tightens restrictions on 16-and 17-year-olds by prohibiting the use of any kind of cell phone while driving.”

“Moments before Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed legislation Thursday to ban 16- and 17-year-olds from using cell phones, laptop computers and other electronic devices while driving, he repeated an admonition he delivered to his daughters,” says the Sacramento Bee. ” ‘I told my daughters I’ll get you the car. I’ll get you the cell phone,’ he said. ‘But if I see you, one time, using both at the same time, both will be gone. The car will be gone for a long time. The phone will be gone … and you’ll go to school with the bus’.”

Not only but also, “Teenage drivers would be prohibited from using their cell phones, iPhones, pagers, laptops or other popular communications gadgets under a new law signed this afternoon by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger,” says the San Francisco Chronicle.
