Demonoid is back online

p2pnet news | P2P:- BitTorrent tracker Demonoid’s normal service has almost resumed.
I say ‘almost’ because p2pnet’s luxurious HQ is on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada, and when we Canadians head over to the site, we see:
We received a letter from a lawyer represeting the CRIA, they were threatening with legal action and We need to start blocking Canadian traffic because of this. If you reside in Canada, that is the reason you are being redirected to this message. Thanks for your understanding, and sorry for any inconvenience.
Those who were slagging Torrentfreak’s Ernesto over in Holland owe him an apology.
He was one of, if not the, first to suggest Warner Music, EMI, Vivendi Universal and Sony BMG’s CRIA (Canadian Recording Industry Association of America) might have been behind Demonoid’s disappearance.
Meanwhile, if you’re Canadian, try using a proxy.
Is this triumph for the members of the Big 4 organised music cartel?
Nope. It’s just another negative they can add to their already huge pile. Eventually, it’ll topple over and that’ll be the end for them.
For us, it’ll be no more than a continuation of something which began when they started suing the people who keep them alive.
Meanwhile, is this the last of Demonoid’s problems?
Definitely stay tuned,
Cheers!

This really makes me sad. Demonoid was the only bloody site I used. I guess now I have to switch to Mininova and TPB, maybe try out ISOhunt, but goddamn does that ever piss me off. Any good proxy servers around the net?

The CRIA and the resdt of them really think they can pull this kind of shit and get away with it. They are always whining about how cd sales are going down and blaming everything from sun spots to their own customers for what is happening. Maybe they are not selling anything because their PRODUCT is SHIT.
They are driving their customers toward Demonoid and the others, not away from them.
THEY ARE DUMB DUMB DUMB !!!!!
hehehe. Sorry, got carried away
There is a bunch of proxies here http://www.samair.ru/proxy/ but I have not tried them

Instal Firefox. Google Tor, Privoxy Vidalia for the rest of the things you need! Nobody tell us where the frak to go on the net!!! NOBODY!!

Isnt Demonoid hosted in Canada???????
And whats with blocking Canadian users when it is LEGAL to download in Canada. If I want to download the latest cd from a Canadian artist I can LEGALLY because I pay, what is it 21 cents or so for EVERY CD I BUY!!! The CRIA and RIAA are the MAIN reason I will NOT by a cd from a band that is a part of them. I know lots of indie bands that dont mind people uploading/downloading their stuff because they want as many people as possible to hear them.

“And whats with blocking Canadian users when it is LEGAL to download in Canada.”
You are RIGHT !!!! Any lawyers here?

Im glad to see demonoid back, Although its worrying for all of us that users in certain countries are being blocked, If you are in Canada you will probaly find that all the BIG DECENT trackers are blocking canadian ip’s or will do soon, ISOHUNT was the first to block them, at the same time Demonoid went down. Now they are blocking Canadian IP’s too.
Even thought the site is back up and torrents working again I fear that this may be the begining of a global problem, If a smart ass legal rep in Canada can get ips blobked whats stopping other country’s doing the same, maybe even employing the same tactics or threats as what were put to demonoid,
We just have to wait and see.
Anyway im going to domonoid to be a “thief” im going “take money from the pockets of artists” as the times put it,
Im sure that these people only having £10million in the bank will hurt them very much, Fuck the record indudtry, gready bastards

I will NOT support Canadian recording companies anymore!!
And the CRIA is responsible for destroying the future Canadian artists. What a shame.
September 30th, 2007 at 3:56 pm
@music fan
“canadian recording companies” are mostly NOT in the CRIA which is just another frontend for the big 4. (thats why Jon so often calls them Canadian recording industry ass. of america)
Keep up supporting canadian recording companies like nettwerk for example!

Jon will follow up on this for sure. Stay tuned.

isoHunt are only blocking access to their trackers from American IP’s only. I know, because I had to implement the ban.
It just blocks the torrentbox/pt hosted trackers, not the isoHunt website, nothing more.

As for the CRIA, current laws say they don’t have any bite in Canada regarding filesharing. Seems somebody bent over and took it hard here when they didn’t have to.
September 30th, 2007 at 4:58 pm
And the CRIAA guys are laffing like assholes
September 30th, 2007 at 5:01 pm
For those that are worried they won’t be able to surf Demonoid any longer, a lot of torrents that begin there usually end up on Mininova or other torrent sites eventually.

For Canadians trying Demonoid via proxy ‘The latest changes to the site are giving us some problems – We’ll be back soon.’

We do NOT owe Ernesto an apologizing for doing the shoddiest reporting on the internet. He admitted it was pure specualtion instead of having an actaul source. IMO Torrentfreak is teh last place to go for any kind of news.
September 30th, 2007 at 6:41 pm
ffs your the biggest dumbass ever, go read the article again 10 times to get it, then read other stories and maybe get it… he was right so who gives a sh*t about the rest.. demonoid crowd completely swarmed the place and Ernesto got alot of crap, he was right so you DO owe him an appology! weither or not you want to is a different matter, but that just tells everyone about your RL character….

looks like the site is down for a bit

What does it mean ‘The latest changes to the site are giving us some problems”?’
It says this even when accessing through a US proxy…
Any ideas?
October 1st, 2007 at 2:14 am
Maybe they blocked proxies?
October 1st, 2007 at 5:17 am
I’ve seen multiple reports over the net with the same problem, and some are even cross-continental.
TF even reported that, on an update. Using proxies though, I guess I’m gonna have to switch to Mininova or TPB. Anyone know any other good torrent sites?

The demonoid site is hosted in Canada, by Canadians, yet only outside IP’s can access it? What a killer joke. I can tell you already that it will not last. Demonoid will move away from .ca and then you can all access the site again
Perhaps some of us could provide mirrors for you.

I also get
The latest changes to the site are giving us some problems – We’ll be back soon
and I live in the UK… no proxy either…

Here is a new torrent site http://www.bitdump.org

Well, Demonoid has shut its doors for what SEEMS to be the final time, its doubtful they will be back as nobody can get hold of the creator of demonoid, meaning he’s probably involved in a battle with the isp and the shit head CRIA….

Can you run the actual programs that support torrents through TOR? It would be nice to be able to run p2p software through a proxy.
