Brandon, the movie was a huge mess. The blame fell on the producers at the time not on Lynch. Lynch was frustrated that they were trying to squeeze such a huge book into a single movie, thereby destroying the story and creating a train wreck. On the later released "extended edition" dvd, Lynch actually uses a fake name as "written and directed by" because he himself was so disappointed with it. He had to go through with the film because he was under contract and it paid off because the same producer made Blue Velvet possible which was a very successful film for him. I'm sure the book Dune is fantastic. It is an epic and surely moves at the intended pace. If you're interested in David Lynch's work, check out Lost Highway, Mulholland Drive, or The Elephant Man. Blue Velvet and Wild at Heart are great too. Peace!

This Lynch guy...is he the same guy who directed Dune?

Horrible movie...It actually dissuaded some people from checking out the novel. :(
