Verizon’s iPhone rival

p2pnet news | Mobiles:- Verizon Wireless has come out with four new devices boasting multi-media abilities —- the Juke by Samsung, BlackBerry Pearl 8130 smartphone, and Venus and Voyager by LG.

And the Voyager’s closest competitor will be the iPhone.

It has a large external touch-screen and opens laterally to reveal a full QWERTY keypad, giving customers a choice on how they access the phone’s features, says Verizon.

It includes an HTML browser, full V CAST- capabilities including V CAST Mobile TV, V CAST Music, with the ability to play .mp3, .wma and unprotected .aac files, and V CAST Video.

Says the company:

These capabilities, coupled with high-speed wireless broadband access, make downloading music on-the-go quick and easy. With all these features, for customers who purchase The Voyager by LG who want to download music, take pictures and do so much more than talk with this stylish device, there is a removable microSD memory slot that holds up to 8 GB of memory.

The Juke (right) looks tasty.

It’s a diminutive swiveling phone with 2-gigs of internal storage that’s able to, “literally flick open 180 degrees to reveal the keypad,” says Verizon.

And it not only looks like an MP3 player, it supports .mp3, .wma and unprotected .aac files, says the story, adding:

“Other must-have features include VGA camera with Nightshot, Bluetooth stereo support for listening to music” and the ability to access Verizon Wireless services such as VZ Navigator and Chaperone.”

PC Magazine figures lower-end Jukes will come in at around $100m, “with contract”.

And why not? Apple has proved consumers will sit still while they’re shanghaied into signing on the dotted line so they can use their phones.

    iphone looks better.

some coverage on the linux iphone killer would be more interesting.

  2. Reader's Write Says:

Verizon and Samsung don’t have fanboys like Apple does. That’s why this phone won’t be as popular.

Personally..Im happy Verizon came out with this Voyager…there has been alot of hype about it not being as good as the iphone, but for people like me, Verizon is the main cell carrier in this area and Ive always been happy with them. Since I didnt want to switch (but I loved) the iphone, this phone will be just as good for me!

  5. Jeff Says:

    I’d go with Samsung.
