BBC ‘Crowngate’ video debacle

p2pnet news | TV:- Peter Fincham, controller of BBC One, has resigned over what’s being called the Crowngate Affair.

His departure follows a, “damning report into the editing of a documentary trailer which misrepresented the Queen,” says Times Online, going on, “Fincham wrongly told a July 11 press launch that a forthcoming documentary would show the Queen storming out of a sitting with the celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz.”

Fincham discovered later the same day this wasn’t the case, “but the BBC did not correct it until the following morning after prominent stories had already been published in a number of newspapers – and only issued an apology at noon that day,” says the story.

Says the BBC:

At a media launch of the BBC One autumn schedule in London on 11 July, a trailer for A Year With the Queen is shown to journalists.

The trailer, compiled by independent production company RDF, shows the Queen “walking out in a huff”, Mr Fincham says.

It showed the Queen in an exchange with photographer Annie Leibovitz, followed by a clip of the Queen apparently walking off.

In fact, the clip of the Queen walking through the Palace was filmed before her portrait session with Leibovitz.

The scene was, “spliced together incorrectly by a production house working for RDF Media, the company which the BBC had commissioned to produce the documentary, whose creative director, Stephen Lambert, also resigned today,” says Times Online, adding:

“The BBC and ITV have both said that they will not work with RDF again.”

One Response to “BBC ‘Crowngate’ video debacle”

  1. Reader's Write Says:

it was not just a case of footage shown in the wrong order – they deliberately edited it in a way to spice up the documentary saying the queen whent off in a huff(or words to that effect) when it simply did not happen.

think of it a someone using the doctored state of the union video in a documentary about bush.
