Or, rather, good news for Sony BMG, her label.

The latest revelation has her featured in a sex tape supposedly shot by a complicit admirer in Hawaii.

But Spears’ apparently endless troubles haven’t made any apparent difference to the success of Gimme More.

As someone once said, there’s no such thing as bad publicity and the ongoing dramas may actually have helped boost it to the top of Billboard’s Hot Digital Songs chart for August.

With 179,000 downloads, it’s Number One, says Associated Press.

It’s the first single from her new album, slated for release on November 13.

Gimme More also went from 68 to 3 on Billboard’s Hot 100, says the story.

Her much maligned performance of Gimme More at the Much Music Video Music Awards was brilliantly (some say viciously) lampooned by Chris Crocker and is still doing the rounds as one of the most famous YouTube videos.

Sony is laughing all the way to the bank, but Spears still has to deal with her drug and alcohol addictions before she can get back on track.
