Sarah Mclachlan is on Nettwerk, not an RIAA label (they actually fought the RIAA)…

But she was/is on Arista which is part of the RIAA

" If you’re a fan of music then you would pay for it especially since it is so cheap, $10-$15 for a CD. Just because I’m a fan of clothing should I go out an steal it? "

Hi David.
If you're going to post this same drivel in every RIAA thread, well I guess I'll have to respond too.
I'm going to make it easier on my self though and just copy my previous response to your SAME
rhetoric. k ?

We’ve covered this before .. a lot.
Artists does NOT equal rights holder.
Buying the CD pays the Rights holder.
The rights holder is nearly ALWAYS the label, not the artist.
The label then pays the artist, sometimes, if they can find them.
out of a 20.00 CD the artists might get 25 cents if they are lucky, but you know that.

Buying CD’s new will only help fund the labels, so they can continue to sue people without
needing evidence of any kind.

Artists do what they do because they are artists.
They were born to it, they live it and breathe it, and do it whether or not they get paid .. that’s an artist.

What you speak of is called a mercenary

The music business is a horrible place for a mercenary, because artists DON’T GET SQUAT

Did you bother to read the negativeland link above David ?
I have a feeling you know exactly whats there already.

Eventually, people as a whole will indeed get sick of what they are doing, they know that.
That’s the main reason why mainstream news is saying VERY little.
The RIAA know the outrage that it will cause.

Stupid corporations KNOW better than to mess with their customers too much.

Copyright infringement does not equal theft ... never will
Lost sale will NEVER equal DL.

If you're a fan of music then you would pay for it especially since it is so cheap, $10-$15 for a CD. Just because I'm a fan of clothing should I go out an steal it? People may think that not paying for music takes away from the artists, well it does, but it also takes away from those people working to produce the record, or the workers in the plants packaging them, or the delivery people delivering the CDs, or even the people working in the stores selling them. Never forget that yes your taking away from the "industry" but you're also taking income away from the average people like you and me! Don't forget Musicians provide many jobs!

THE SECOND LINK took me to the Guns'n'Roses MySpace page, where they played "Welcome to the Jungle" at me. The FULL VERSION of the song. I could have used Audacity or other software to make an MP3 of what was coming out of my speakers.

Meanwhile, I already have their CD "Appetite for Destruction" and have never shared any of its files.

The idea isn't necessarily to get a message to the artist but more to their fans. If even one fan's opinion can be swayed then that can lead to even more lost sales for the artist as that fan starts to voice his/her displeasure to others.

They don't care. They don't even read their own websites/blogs for the most part. This is a pointless effort, since they hear the news and they are aware of the travesty of justice that has occurred. But not a single artist will bite the hand that feeds it. Not a single post will appear on their websites. Not a single one will speak out against the RIAA. The best thing we, as CONSUMERS, can do is stop buying their retail music and buy used instead. Or, if you have to get the latest stuff, go to their websites and ask them to allow you to purchase it directly from them, and explain your reasons. If enough people do this *perhaps* they will capitulate. If Walfart/K-fart/Costlyco slow down their purchasing due to lack of sales, that will make them listen. Money (or the lack of it), unfortunately, is the only thing they and the RIAA listen to.
