Sony charged with aiding online piracy

p2pnet news | RIAA News:- ‘Japan’s Sony has been charged with aiding and abetting online piracy.’
It’d make any highly appropriate headline, wouldn’t it?
Sadly, however, it’s one we’re not likely to see, even though, as p2pnet has frequently pointed out, Sony is a both a:
- Paid-up founder member of the organised music and movie cartels, which are so bitterly protesting about P2P file sharing villains and so-called camcording pirates; and, at the same time
- The maker of millions of dollars worth of internationally marketed equipment used by said P2P file sharing villains and so-called camcording pirates.
With that in mind, says Bluetacky in a p2pnet Reader’s Write:
Sony sold me a Video Recorder so that I could copy TV and Movies.
Sony sold me the tape to use to copy TV and movies onto.
Sony sold me a Cassette Recorder and told me I could use it to record Music from the Radio.
Sony sold me a Radio with built in Cassette Recorder to make copying Music easier.
Sony sold me the Cassettes and told me they could be used to record music off the Radio or from my Record Player.
Sony sold me a CD-DVD Burner and told me it could be used in my computer to make copies of Music and Movies.
Sony sold me the disks to copy the Music and Movies to.
Sony sold me an MP3 player and told me it was to put music onto so I could listen whenever I wanted.
Sony sold me a Playstation3 and told me I could put Music and Video onto the Hard drive, they even built into it the ability to rip Music from CDs onto the Hard drive.
So – now I’ve done as Sony suggested, they accuse me of thievery!!!!
I wasnt a thief all those years when they were taking my money!!!
So when is the hearing date for Sony’s court appearance … for aiding and abetting my crimes??
Nice one, Bluetacky.

(And Happy Thanksgiving to fellow Canadians

we may sue every weapon maker, cause without them making and giving guns to anyone, there will be no murders by gun.
they are the ones to blame for virtually all murders in the world, or not?

Sorry, jaime, you missed with that comment. Now, if the GUN MANUFACTURERS were to blanket-sue thousands of GUN OWNERS, on the assumption THAT THEY MAY HAVE ENGAGED IN UNDOCUMENTED, UNREPORTED, LOSSLESS CRIMES AGAINST THE GUN MANUFACTURERS USING THOSE GUNS, you may have a closer analogy.

jaime whilst your at it don’t forget to sue all knife manufactures kitchen knives make fine murder weapons. oh and manufactures of baseball bats many a murder comited with those. oh piano wire, rope and belts can be used to strangle.
actually you may just be better off suing anyone with hands as they also can kill.

Fanatics of the P2P super power gave birth to the devil.
It is the strongest P2P file sharing system Share NT.
And, Because UDP is used, even the band limiting that the internet service provider does is exceeded.

jaime and somebody anonymous above,
The gun manufacturers and knife manufacturers DID NOT tell you that you can kill somebody with their products, they just tell you to use it safely and in really urgent occasions, while Sony has told you HOW to copy copyrighted materials such as the radio programs and TV programmes in their instruction manuals and did not warn you that you will be sued if you copy something copyrighted! They encourage us to do that by adding new features to their machines that are INTENDED to copy copyrighted materials!
Can you tell me what is the use of a VHS recorder as being promoted in advertisements and described in detail in the instruction manual ? What is the use of G-code?
THEY ARE BEING INVENTED TO RECORD LICENSED AND COPYRIGHTED MATERIALS from TV stations! Don’t tell me that the VCR can just be used for copying materials produced by myself! I will not used G-code to timer-record a video I made myself AT HOME! The only use of that function is to COPY COPYRIGHTED TV PROGRAMMES ILLEGALLY as the big companys usually say!
The INVENTION of VCR and Cassette recorders and even MD recorders and Mp3 machines is actually an action helping the spread of so-called “illegal materials”.
Sueing Sony is absolutely correct, the same theory applied to Napster, they invented something that promotes the illegal spreading of copyrighted materials! Napster store MP3s in a central server while Sony wisely provided a way to store the same illegaly copied items on thousands of millions of electronic devices and storage media over the world, think of a highly distributed storage system! And the aim of Sony is to earn money from this highly distributed storage system formed by billions of innocent people …
Sorry for my bad English…

I agree with jaime that we should sue/destroy the weapons makers (just guns – misslies – chemical warfare weapons).
The ‘you would have to ban kitchen knifes & you can’t stop homemade bombs’ arguement doesn’t really hold water when you consider the gun & ammo business (legal) which goes on enabling millions of human deaths and suffering.
I’d like to smack the people who think readily available guns are fine & ammo manufacturers are your friend with my baseball bat :p

Also i think Sony is being very hypocritacal they have made so many copy/recording based products over the years that we all like – why can’t they just let us use them in peace?
