Napster invades Canada

p2pnet.net News:- Having bombed in the US, Napster II is on its way to Canada where, says owner Roxio, it’ll “offer Canadian consumers a localized version of Napster 2.0, complete with Canadian-specific radio stations, promotions and content from domestic acts.”

Wow, eh?

And, “Just like U.S. members of Napster, Canadian members will have the choice of subscribing to Napster and enjoying unlimited access to hundreds of thousands of tracks for a low monthly fee or visiting Napster Light to hear 30-second clips and purchase tracks and albums a la carte.”

Just like US members, huh? Canadians will be deeply honoured.

“Napster has long-recognized the huge demand for a compelling, legitimate music experience among our Canadian neighbors,” says Roxio boss Chris Gorog.

That’s as opposed to the completely free and perfectly legal experience currently available in Canada?

Or maybe Roxio knows something Canadians don’t.

Roxio has an office in Toronto and, “Local Canadian Napster personnel are on board to ensure the service is truly Canadian, in tune with the Canadian audience and leverages the country’s diverse music and culture, however, [sic] for the near term, Napster’s U.S. executive team will be primarily responsible for the service’s operations in Canada” – just until those Canadians get the hang of it.

In the meanwhile, with Napster II on Canadian soil, will the Big Five record labels use their CRIAA (Canadian Recording Industry Association of America) to start a Canuk Joint Committee of the Higher Education and Entertainment Communities to get ‘product’ into universities – like it does in the US?
