RIAA(J) spams Japanese file sharers

p2pnet.net News:- Following the lead of its cousins in the US and Canada, the Japanese version of the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) is now spamming people it thinks are sharing music files online.

"Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) has started to send warnings using the IM function to individual P2P users uploading music files illegally on the internet," it says on its site here.

"This action was launched on 2nd March, 2004 to give full recognition to the illegality of uploading music files through file-sharing software and make them stop such illegal activities. Uploading MP3 files made from commercial music CDs without permission of right holders is an infringement of the Copyright Law.

The RIAJ says it’s also launched a ‘Respect Our Music’ campaign and "other various educational activities on copyright".

This includes requesting "thorough management to the academic institutions and companies where illegal uploading acts were found," it states.

"We also had sent letters to about 1,200 universities and junior colleges nationwide to call on the enhancement of their LAN management. Due to the effect of this, the number of illegal uploads on their networks has been decreasing."

But, "there is no end of P2P users who upload music files illegally, so we started sending notices to individual users. Against certain malicious users, we are preparing to take legal actions.

"The number of IM sent will surpass 1 million by the end of May."

Isn’t SPAM against the law in Japan? If so, then can’t those spammers be sued?

Downloading music without paying should not be illegal. The artists do not need the money that bad. They are rich enough so that it shouldn’t matter if people download music without paying. The RIAA needs to calm down and leave people who file share or download music alone. The RIAA should not be able to sue people who download illegaly. Face it, if they are easily capable of doing it, the people who download music without paying (like me) will continue to download music. If they are so intent on stopping illegal music downloading, the they should only be able to sue the sites. As long as it is posible to download music for free, I and many others will continue to do so. (by the way, I don’t care if the artists or the music industry doesn’t get any money at all)

Downloading MP3’s certainly does not Starve the Artists as the RIAA claims.
What a Bunch of Lies! They’re likely many Folks out there, who do not buy many CD’s anyway, if any at all, so there is no Money lost that Way at all!
If I where an Artist, I would be proud if People downloaded & Listened to my Talents!

TrulyDownloading is in no way different than like it was back in the 80’s, when Friends copied a CD or Record on to a Tape!
And by the Way, Downloading MP3’s is not like Stealing CD’s at all, after all it’s a vastly Compressed Format + it has less Quality than the Original CD Recording.

Those Artists who create & Composse Music for People’s Enjoyment especially deserve to be Supported like, direct CD’s or Downloading from the Artists themselves with less Cost, than the Greedy RIAA & their Assosciates. Don’t forget Folks that the RIAA has a History of Price Fixing!

  4. Reader's Write Says:

What will the RIAA & their Counterparts do, when Folks download Encrypted MP3 Files?

  5. Reader's Write Says:

It’s because those artists are money-hungry.

If the following conditions are met, then I would support the RIAA:
    1) They have proof that a certain well-known artist is making $0 in revenue and has to sell his house, car, and all of his or her posessions to live.
    2) The prices of CD’s drop to $1-$3 CAN.

Since that’s never going to happen, I’m not going to support the RIAA.

  6. Reader's Write Says:

yah thats what Kazaa was planning on doing to RIAA for misusing the messaging system in the p2p proggy.

  7. Reader's Write Says:

They will do just what ALL governments do, BITCH about the people being able to hide things from them.

  8. Reader's Write Says:
