BSA ‘commends’ US administration
p2pnet.net News:- The Business Software Alliance (BSA) wants US Senate budget appropriators to boost resources for fighting piracy domestically and abroad.
BSA was one of the Hollywood marketing and enforcement units which was able to persuade the FBI to use FBI agents to raid schools in Arizona looking for ‘pirated’ product.
In testimony before the Senate Committee on Appropriations Subcommittee for Commerce, Justice, State and the Judiciary, BSA president and ceo Robert Holleyman said in 2002, 39% of commercial software in use globally was pirated.
He “commended” the administration for Intellectual Property enforcement efforts led by a small “but dedicated staff at USTR” (Office of the United States Trade Representative) and said the BSA was all for a new and separate Intellectual Property Office within USTR, “with increased staff, to enable USTR to continue to place a high priority on IP rights and enforcement”.
He also thought an IP office inside the Department of State would be a really good idea.
