Napster abandons client download
p2pnet news | Music:- Napster – the disinterred version, that is, not the P2P file sharing application which started the online music revolution – stumbles from one failed attempt after another to try to strike a chord with music lovers.
But nothing seems to work. It’s still just a pale copy of the original, and everyone knows it.
Now it’s abandoning client download in favour of a web-based platform.
That means users will be able to to play their music from any computer without having to download any additional software, says Reuters.
“The move is intended to open up the service and attract more paying subscribers by making the Napster platform more flexible and compatible with any Internet-enabled device,” says the story.
“Before now most Napster subscribers could only listen to their music after downloading the Napster software application on to their personal computers.”
Yawn.

Yeah, it will be a “success” alright…at failure. Oh, I forgot….it is already that now!
The more legal services that go down that restrict users with DRM, the better. Maybe then, the industry will see that they had better change or face extinction. This is only the beginning.

The Rentals will need some form of DRM. Sales don’t need it.
