Paedophile suspect Neil arrested

p2pnet news | Crime:- You can run, but you can’t hide, has taken on new meaning as the suspect in an online hunt for a paedophile is arrested in Thailand.
Interpol had searched unsuccessfully for the man, named as 32-year-old Christopher Paul Neil, a former candidate for the Catholic priesthood from British Columbia, Canada, for three years.
However, he was identified shortly after pictures of him were published online where, under most normal circumstances, anonymity is guarded jealously.
His brother made an impassioned public appeal to the man to give himself up.
“The manhunt for Neil and his arrest highlights growing worldwide efforts to combat so-called sex tourism, a problem that is rampant in Southeast Asia, Richard Bridle, UNICEF’s deputy regional director for Southeast Asia, told Voice Of America.
The number of pedophile arrests and prosecutions is rising, thanks to growing cooperation between the rich western nations that export child molesters and the poorer countries that host them, says the story, going on to quote Bridle as saying:
“There are two parts to the equation: the kids who are the victims seem to be Southeast Asians – at least that’s what the news stories tell us – and a lot of the perpetrators are coming from Europe and North America, and so on. I think we’ve begun to realize that it just isn’t right that crimes like this should be committed against children, and this says very, very bad about our own society.”
Technology and improving communication, “have helped in the battle against an age-old crime, which is prevalent not only in Asia, but in Africa and Latin America as well,” says VOA.
Neil, from Maple Ridge near Vancouver, “was discovered in the province of Nakhon Ratchasima, 150 miles north east of Bangkok,” says Times Online, going on:
“Police said he was traced through the mobile phone of his Thai boyfriend.”
Neil’s face, distorted by photo software, had appeared online. But German technicians were able to reverse the technique, which had turned his image into a series of swirls, revealing his proper likeness.
After that, and after the newly cleaned up photos appeared online, it was only a matter of time.
