Bush cabinet bloggers

p2pnet news | Advertising:- Blogs are the mainstream media’s worst nightmare come to life, usurping their previously sacrosanct roles as the exclusive news providers, and giving people everywhere freedom of expression and the abiity to pass on information, unfettered and unspun by vested corporate interests.
So the corporate press have launched their own blogs in an effort to keep pace.
But they weren’t the first to recognize the potential. Rather, politicians, trying to pass themselves off a just plain folks, saw blogs as The Way.
And now members of the Bush administration are belatedly trying to cash in.
Health and human services secretary Mike Leavitt and Homeland Security’s Michael Chertoff are the first two members of the Bush crowd to start blogging, says Associated Press, going on:
“The State Department has begun a blog, too, although Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is not a contributor so far.”
But back to the just plain folks theme, “This week in Seattle, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation invited health leaders from around the world to attend a Malaria Forum,” Leavitt posts.
And guess who was, “among a small group invited to their home for dinner”?
Yup.
“Yes, their home is spectacular,” says Leavitt disarmingly, adding:
“Unfortunately, I am not good with remembering decorating details. I routinely fail in satisfying my wife’s requests for specifics on design, fabrics and art. I do remember the trampoline room and original documents of Napoleon in the library.”
And Chertoff? Not so homely.
“All of our counterterrorism efforts focus directly or indirectly on bombing prevention – whether that involves screening passengers for explosives at airports, checking cargo for radiological materials that can be used to make ‘dirty bombs,’ protecting dangerous chemicals from theft, hardening critical infrastructure, advancing research and technology to defeat IEDs, or sharing information and intelligence with state and local partners, he blogs.
