OiNK busted

p2pnet news | P2P:- “The hugely popular BitTorrent tracker OiNK.me.uk appears to be offline but it is in fact alive and well,” Torrentfreak posted back in July, going on:
“OiNK is suffering from some annoying DNS issues, strangely enough their domain registrar decided to suspend the domain. The good news is that with a little tweak, it’s still possible to access the site.”
That was then and this is now and Warner Music, EMI, Vivendi Universal and Sony BMG’s IFPI (International Federation of Phonographic Industry) is crowing that with a little help from his friends in Holland, it’s boinked OiNK.
The Big 4 members of the organised music cartel were already cock-a-hoop because they’d closed down England’s www.tv-links.co.uk and had a 26-year-old man arrested.
For what?
Users were, “potentially evading licence fees, subscription fees to digital services or the cost of purchase or admittance to cinemas to view the films,” according to entertainment cartel outfit FACT (Farcical Approaches to Copyright Transgressions) mouthperson Kieron Sharp.
Potentially? So now they’re nailing people for something they might, or might not, do.
Meanwhile, the IFP is bragging it was able to steal scarce British and Dutch police resources, not to mention Interpol, away from normal duties to arrest a 24-year-old ’suspect’.
This followed a, “two-year investigation by the international and UK music industry bodies IFPI and BPI,” says the IFPI.
A flat on Teesside and several properties in Amsterdam were raided, says the BBC, going on:
“The IT worker was led from his home in the town’s Grange Road and is being questioned on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud and infringement of copyright law.”
His employer, “a large multi-national company,” and his father’s home were also raided, says the story, which also has a Cleveland Police spokesman saying on behalf of the Big 4, “This extremely lucrative and creative scheme consisted of a private file-sharing website being set up. Membership was by invitation only.”

I’m sorry but this really galls me… Why are these TRADE ORGANISATIONS taking the Police, that *I* pay for through taxation, away from catching those nerks who are intent on committing offences against the person in order that they can arrest someone for the ‘crime’ of ‘copyright infringement’? God forbid they should stop someone from mugging a pensioner when the whole of the music industry is in terminal decline…
How about everyone stops sharing files for a year and we see how quick they can find something else to blame for their own business model inadequacies?

Fantastic point Baldy!
“find something else to blame for their own business model inadequacies?”
All this at the end of the day comes from the Big 4 being completely antiquated in their approach to business in the 21st century. Evolve or become extinct, give my regards to the Dodo Big 4.
