3G phones dangerous: UK parents

p2pnet.net News:- British mums and dads are worried that 3G phones will make it “more or less impossible to supervise and support children who use the internet”.

A new charity group NCH poll says 78% of parents fear the new generation phones could compromise their childrens’ safety.

Parents in Scotland were more worried about the impact of 3G phones than in other parts of the UK, with 86% of parents fearing the new phones could threaten the safety of children.

Three is the only mobile service provider selling 3G handsets commercially so far in Britain but other operators are expected to launch services this year.

“If they (operators) want these phones to take off in the youth market, they are going to have to convince a lot of parents that they are safe, or can be made safe,” says John Carr, NCH’s internet adviser.

NCH published a report in January warning that 3G phones could mean growth in child pornography.

While parents are able to monitor their children’s Internet activity while at home, they have no way of supervising Net surfing habits on mobile phones, Carr said.

Duh! Don’t buy them a phone. Don’t pay for the internet service if you are stupid enough to buy them a phone. Problem solved.

    i absolutely agree!
if the parents are STUPID ENOUGH to buy them the phone then they shouldent be raising the children!
    the phone is VERY dangerous!
i honestly dont see the reason on even making these phones, except for the fact that it will make the companies more money.
parents, dont buy the phone for you’re children! there is already enough of that trash out there, and we dont need to add to it!

What a load of technofobia. If the kids want to surf freely on the net they use a freakin internet cafe, 86% of parents ? – I smell manipulation here. Either that or you brits are becoming as stupid as the americans.
