Celebrities escape California wild fires

p2pnet news | TV:- Britney Spears isn’t the only celebrity whose home is being threatened by wildfires blazing their way through southern California.
“Malibu has many multi-million dollar homes along the Pacific Coast Highway including those owned by David Geffen, Barbra Streisand and Pierce Brosnan,” says CTV, going on:
“Celebrities, including James Cameron, Mel Gibson and Olivia Newton John, are among residents being forced to evacuate their homes.”
Houses belonging to Mark Hamill and David Duchovny are also in danger, and Sean Penn’s ranch burned Sunday, says story.
“The big problem out here has been the wind,” says CTV.
But you know what they say about ill winds not blowing someone, somewhere some good and with that in mind, the Big Three network evening newscasts are looking at the fire to boost their ratings.
They’ve dispatched their anchors to the devastated San Diego area, says Reuters, going on:
“Much of Monday’s newscasts were devoted to the fire while the anchors were on the East Coast. NBC’s Brian Williams left late Monday in a chartered jet from White Plains, N.Y., to San Diego, arriving at about 7 a.m. Tuesday. He reported all day from San Diego for CNBC, MSNBC and NBC and will anchor from California at least through Wednesday.
“ABC’s Charles Gibson and his executive producer Jon Banner also flew all night and arrived in Los Angeles. Gibson took a chopper ride over the fires on his way down to San Diego, from where he reported Tuesday.”
And in the Blogosphere, Yahoo was also cashing in via its Flickr photo site, relying on users to do the work.
“Earlier today, I noticed one of my Buckweed Fire pictures spike from 100 to 400 views in only a few minutes,” posts DanSordidNSundryPictures on Flickr, going on:
It continued to 1,000 and then 2,000 quickly. Apparantly Yahoo!’s homepage contained a link to a selection of 30 pictures of the fires they had gathered from flickr. What they actually did was create a flickr account and favorite 30 pictures of the fire, then link to that from their homepage (directly under the headline about the fires). Another link to flickr is up right now in a different format with more pictures.
Anyway, I’m guessing that they found their pictures from this pool, so if you have pictures here, yours may have been used to Yahoo! News.
Personally, I’m flattered. I didn’t even think that particular picture was very good!
The pic in upper the right is one of Dan’s.
