UK’s Dixon Group lost on Vista

p2pnet news | Product News:- Briton’s the Dixon Store Group (DSG) retail chain has now issued figures on its Microsoft Vista sales.
And it’s not happy.
“The firm says that it earned 20 million pounds less in the first two quarters of the year because sales of Vista products did not meet expectations,” says Heise Online, adding:
“The DSG says it has had to write off excess inventory, which brought down the retailer’s gross margin by 2 percent. The Group says that far fewer Vista computers were sold at its PC World chain than were put on inventory.
“In particular, DSG Chairman Sir John Collins says that sales of notebooks have been especially disappointing, forcing his company to take corrective action.”

i like reading things like this, in the hope that microsoft will lose a noticeable bit of business to free and open software like ubuntu, etc.

To add to bo’s comment, DSG is a horrible retailer with consistently very bad customer service and high prices. It’s good to see their profits take a well-deserved dive.

Maybe they will learn from this and start offering more options. Blindly forcing consumers to use microsoft’s newest monstrosity is most certainly the best way to lose business.
How about following dell’s lead and including Ubuntu as a default install. It is far superior to vista, and you can pass along the saving to the consumer, thus increasing the attractiveness of the price. No antivirus / antispyware required, just bliss

“To add to bo’s comment, DSG is a horrible retailer with consistently very bad customer service and high prices. It’s good to see their profits take a well-deserved dive.” well said. Went in several years ago to buy a sony vgn-s1hp laptop(good spec and particularly long battery life at the time) went to shop assistant asked for one and was taken to a display stand where the special offer was and given a sales pitch. Ended up walking out of the store followed by a sales guy groveling for me to purchase the special offer. Ended up getting the laptop from a local small pc shop(ordered in) for the same price.
still feel sorry for the sale guy but thats what you get when your ‘untrained’ sales staff get most of there wages from commission.

Now go figure.
DSG sucks, and UKer’s want everthing for free (like Linux)
This isn’t news, its just another attempt by the Linux Heads to hide the truth that Linux is crap-ware.
If a car salesman gave you a car for free would it be even worth parking in your garage???

iHuman lol I got my car for free did it up with my dad and made a few quid. This is not for everyone as is linux.
A example of how linux is crap-ware would be interesting?

Sorry Rob. I didn’t mean that about Linux really. I apologize!
You make a very good point with the example of your car.
