‘Don’t buy Manhunt 2′ warning

p2pnet news | Games:- Don’t buy Take-Two Interactive’s Manhunt 2 Manhunt 2, child advocates are urging parents.

Banned in Britain, the Rockstar game is slated to make its official appearance on how tomorrow and “it’s the most senselessly violent and offensive thing I’ve ever watched,” Associated Press has James Steyer, CEO of Common Sense Media, a nonprofit group that advises parents about television, movies, Internet sites and video games that may be inappropriate for children, stating.

Steyer was basing his comments an unrated version that’s been available online since August, says the story, going on:

That version contains more violence and sexually explicit content than the one being released commercially, including a scene where a man’s testicles are mutilated with a pliers.

Made for the Nintendo Wii, Sony PlayStation Portable and PlayStation 2, “the blood-drenched game has been sparking controversy since June, when the Entertainment Software Rating Board gave it a rating of ‘adult only’ that would have excluded it from some big-box retailers, including Wal-Mart Stores Inc,” says AP.

“Producers at Rockstar Games submitted a modified version of ‘Manhunt 2′ later in the summer that got the ‘mature’ rating in August.”

Professional gamers who reviewed the original and modified titles, “say the original and the free download include a scene in which a character pummels someone’s neck with a shovel that doesn’t appear to have made the official cut - though the official game does allow players to use shovels as instruments of torture,” says AP, adding:

“Similarly, the pliers-and-genitalia scene isn’t in the official version, but players may use pliers to torture.”

“The game was leaked to Usenet, not bittorrent, and it wasn’t a ’scene release’,” posted Darcus on Ars Technica in September, and, “It was inevitable that this was going to show up sooner or later,” said Xavin.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if one of the people close to the development leaked it in protest of all the BS. This won’t effect sales any more than normal piracy.”

The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) banned the original Manhunt 2 because of its “bleakness and callousness of tone,” and then did the same to the revised version because among other things, although there was a, “reduction in the visual detail in some of the ‘execution kills’,” in others, “they retain their original visceral and casually sadistic nature”.

And of course these most likely rabid Christian groups don’t care about all the equally violent “torture porn” movies like Saw or Hostel.

  2. Rob Says:

“it’s the most senselessly violent and offensive thing I’ve ever watched,” you play a game not watch it.

I must admit that i have yet to play this game but i have no desire to either. Which normal adult would want to exchange hard earned cash for the chance to play a game “where a man’s testicles are mutilated with a pliers”.

Unfortunately many children will want to play this game not because they want to but because it is baned. Some kid will then kill/torture another and it will be blamed on this game but for once they may actually be right.

“Some kid will then kill/torture another and it will be blamed on this game but for once they may actually be right.”

If you torture or kill someone you have deeper problems than a video game. Manhunt 2 will definitely be used as a scapegoat for some future murder.

They do care but Its simpler with films as parents read about them in magazines, newspapers and on tv. Ask them what the difference is between manhunt 2 and Faranhight and they will not have a clue(some parents are computer litret but most are not)

  5. JC Says:

I will buy this game - today. I’m also not a child, homicidal or otherwise perverted. Happens to be that horror is something I enjoy, and being that games provide ME more entertainment value for the dollar vs. movies.

It’s a new world - get used to it, and the kills have been obscured, and the game is not for children, and the Wii at least has parental controls.

  6. swanny Says:

I have not played the video game. However i think 9 out of ten times the parent is to blame on the behavior of their child. If their child does kill someone in the same fashion seen on a movie or a video game that they are playing they go strait to the move or game. They never say hey i am a crappy parent that obviously wasn’t in my child’s life teaching them moral values of simple right and wrong. http://www.topblogcontent.com/2007/10/30/manhunt-2/

According these 1000+ sites on google:

    http://www.google.co.uk/hws/search?hl=en&client=dell-usuk-rel&channel=uk-psp&ibd=2061217&q=manhunt+2+leaked+by+SCEE

It was Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) who was the source of the leak.

  8. Xen Says:

If that’s true then the theory of it being leaked in protest is absurd, because SCEE’s job is only to evaluate whether they want it to be released on their system or not, and from the looks of it they approved it. Does this mean we should ban all games that SCEE approves? Since they have been proven to be the source of the leak on the internet, and therefore the ones responsible for making it accessible to our children in a way that is un-regulated by any authority.

So what you’re saying is that educating parents is the answer. (and not to nitpick, but I would expecting someone trying to lecture people about another groups’ supposed illiteracy to be able to spell ‘literate’)

It is our job as parents to find out about things that may be dangerous to our children (what do you mean I can’t leave bleach lying around the house for my child to drink?? Why didn’t anyone put a LABEL on it telling me it wasn’t for kids?!?!) and protect them from it. Take some responsibility, folks!

  10. Ivan_PSP Says:

Well i`m downloading this game now for PSP i don’t care what anybody say. I love violence game like Manhunt every game AO games will make M game look like shit.

  11. alakabrennan Says:

First of all i think all you guys fail to realize that the original was a lot more violent. Second i think that this is a form of censorship and that it is a shame that rockstar had to clean up there piece of art. My third and last point is i bet that rockstar cut a deal with the esrb. Rockstar would show them the game and show them the most violent parts and the esrb would give them a AO rating. Then that would make the esrb look good and it would give rockstar enough press so the game would sell even better.

Oh and i am going to buy the game in support of rockstar.

  12. Reader's Write Says:

In my personal opinion, I think manhunt 2 should not have been banned anywhere, in a world where people have many rights. If anyone has a problem with the content, simply don’t buy it……it’s that simple….

  13. Pyramid Says:

I bought the game. The first scene shocked me but that was why I bought this game. I wanted to play through a horror movie. Look, gamers are smart enough to know the difference between reality and fantasy. I have even played Mortal Kombat for over ten years and the last Manhunt repeatedly and I’ve not killed anyone. I’ve not had any fights probably because I HAVE been playing so many video games. IT’S A GAME! There is a CLEAR difference between punching someone in the face on your TV and doing so in real life.
All this drama while we live in a country that allows freedom is a bit hypocritical. Grow up. Let people decide for themselves what video games to play. Besides, you watch, in the near future, games, even AO games, will be available for download onto your gaming console. I even foresee the porn industry’s involvement in video games. There’s money to be made and a market, all that is needed is to make the games available. Something video game outlets won’t obviously allow.

  14. Chris Says:

The only thing I have to say about this is that you never seen such an uproar about a movie like Dawn of The Dead, like we are seeing for Manhunt. I agree with every person that advocates th right to freedom of choice in this matter. Your Moral Values dont agree with video game violence? Well, your morals are not mine, so dont buy the game. I enjoy the fact that a lot of people say the game is perverse, yet I can guarantee at least half of them go home and put on some type of twisted beastiality movie. Everyone is a critique for everyone else but themselves.

  15. Xenon Says:

Yeah, right… i guess before the world had Videogames and Movies there was no war, no torture, no murdering etc…. what a bunch of crap.
Blame the sick mentality of people and not games/movies. I’ve been playing all kind of games since over 15 years and have never killed or tortured someone ^^

  16. Reader's Write Says:

I was 12, when I finished Manhunt, and believe me, I’m not a danger for public…

  17. Hectic Ethnik Says:

Xenon, Pyramid and swanny are absolutely right. According to Wikipedia, some parts from the first manhunt game were based on things which occurred in Texas chainsaw massacre [a true story]. I’m sure during those days in which those incidents happened, nobody (and that includes Leatherface) owned a game with violent material. I’m sure Jack The Ripper and Ed Ghein didn’t own such either so don’t blame it on the game, its just common sense, ITZ A GAME DON’T COPY IT! Just because Spiderman could jump off buildings, do we see children doing that? No! Just because Mario jumps on opponents do we see children doing that? No! Just because Zelda is going around slashing people with a sword doing we see children doing that? No! Just because Naruto beats people up do children do that? No!
Just because a murder occurs and the murderer owned the game it doesn’t mean that it was the game’s fault. It’s common sense and it’s the same rule that applies for movies: PARENTS NEED TO CONTROL WHAT THEIR CHILDREN ARE PLAYING!!!
It’s the person not the game that is the cause. It’s the persons on vulnerable/deathly personality that shouldn’t be exposed to the game in the first place. If you’re not vulnerable or have a deathly nature then play it.
HONESTLY I HAVE PLAYED THIS FOR AGES AND I JUST DON’T GET HOW THIS CAUSES MURDER BECAUSE I HAVEN’T HAD THE SLIGHTEST INTENTION TO KILL SOMEBODY YET!!!

JACK THOMPSON CAN GO SUCK A DICK AND GROW UP THAT MOTHERFUCKING DICKHEAD!

  18. Lewis Says:

I have seen this game, i have liked it ever since i saw someone getting suffocated by a plastic bag. Children that copy these actions are in response to their personality, not the game, if you kill someone than your obviously either have no concience or your just plain stupid or you have a mental issue. My brother has brain damage and he has played it, he doesnt just murder people because he saw it on a game. Have you ever thought of movies like saw, texas chainsaw massacre or Dawn of the dead, those are even worse. But do people go into the street with a gun and shoot people down because they think they are zombie(because they are walking slugish) or tie people up and rip their teeth out?THIS GAME DOES NOT CAUSE MURDERS, THE PEOPLES PSYCHOTIC MINES DO, THIS DOESNT EVEN HELP THEM, OR GIVE THEM IDEAS, ITS, JUST, A, GAME!Just release it, no one with a right mind would copy these action.
