Being the band reponsible for the original lawsuit against Napster caused change in the industry. Being the original proponent for any controversial action requires tremendous inner strength to lead among all the protestations and subsequent consequences. Although not having seen the movie, but reading the comments from the band and its producers, it seems apparent that is what the movie is all about, a band with inner courage, (balls). As an artist who generates intellectual property, I.E. not waiting for someone else to do it, my hat is off to Metallica for standing up and face the strain, without which intellectual property would be worthless.

Hi there, Mr. Bellinger.
I have only found out about the movie last night and I can't wait to see it - hopefully not too long (I live in South Africa).
I have been a fan ever since I can remember and I can only imagine how incredible it must have been to be allowed into their space like that. I commend your interest to think about making the film in the first place as well as your effort to pull through with it.
Ignore ignorant idiots who knows nothing about why one wants to make such a film and who knows nothing about the band.

Metalica burned a valuable bridge when they attacked their fans base (Napster). If they had embraced the wave of new technology and capitalized on it with mp3 file sharing they could have come out on top. But they instead took the low road and lost something they'll never regain. The consumers/fans don't forget and Metaliica will have to live with the fact that as much as I really liked their earlier music, I refuse to purchase or much less listen to it anymore. I do it out of principle. Hey, there are a lot of good bands out there and....... they appreciate the fact that I have a choice in who I support.
I don't think I'm even a little bit interested in this movie. Nope, I thought I was for a moment, and then I realized I was wrong.

I once loved your music. Now I wish it never existed. I fed your wallets with album purchases and what have you done to return the favor? You sued people like me for listening to your music that most can't afford to pay for (Students, and Grandparents).

I will never buy any of your music nor artists like you, nor listen to it, and I tell everyone I know not to.

I hope everyone in the world p2p swaps, posts, e-mails, downloads, and throws away your music. I hope your movie goes by the waist side like the crap it is.

Regards,

Ex-Fan

Sorry man, you just dont get it, Metallica sued its own fans, you can't be more corporate than that crap. There is a hundred and one ways Metallica could have handled this better than being a showmanship piece for the RIAA for the legal representatives who dont understand technology let alone 'young people's interests'. Even George Bush understands about pissing on your fans/customers/voters has repercussions and needs to do some serious kissing up to make it for it....well Bush sorta get its...but Metallica never did. They spit on the fans who literally made them what they are and have forgotten their roots and now are desperately trying to rehash themselves into something they no longer are.

By the way, if your going to use your formal title and position, at least represent yourself correctly, filmmkaer is spelled filmmaker I believe, unless that is some new trendy title or rehasing it. But am just a consumer with purchasing power (yes I do buy my entertainment goods which is a lot more games and movie tickets than rentals or music), so what do I know about the trendy show business. It just sucks people like you are passing laws that make legal things illegal, such as trying to back up our own products or converting our own purchased products into different formats so we can use it on different things...(aka ... CD to mp3 player...DVD to spare backup so the artwork on the original DVD doesnt get damaged)...

Customers do NOT forget, contrary to popular business belief. Please keep suing your customers and passing laws that take away our individual rights.

Having been one of the filmmakers, I can tell you it was one of the most fascinating experiences I've ever had. Don't pity me -- it's the best film we have ever made.
