Apple rations iPhones

p2pnet news | Mobiles:- Apple has built its business on DRM and being able to dictate to its customers what they will and will not do, and now it’s taking things a stage further by accepting only credit or debit card payments for iPhone buys so they can track buyers, says an Apple Store employee in New York’s SoHo neighborhood.
The company is also limiting purchases to two iPhones at a time, and the implications of both decisions are interesting, to say the least.
“The new policy is Apple’s attempt to prevent people from purchasing and then unlocking and reselling iPhones, a situation that has been a problem for the company,” says the IDG News Service, going on :
“Apple won’t let anyone without a credit card or debit card in their name purchase iPhones, according to an unidentified Apple Store employee in a phone interview.”
According to reports, of the 1.4 million sold so far, more than 250,000 have been unlocked, which is to say they can be used by anyone, anywhere on anything, which is strictly against Apple rules.
This new policy is, “Apple’s attempt to prevent people from purchasing and then unlocking and reselling iPhones, a situation that has been a problem for the company,” says IDG.
“We need to track the purchases of the iPhone [because] we have people buying the phones, unlocking the phones and selling them,” it has the unidentified Apple employee saying.
