OiNK, BoINK, what.cd and waffles.fm

p2pnet news | Freedom:- The deeply flawed anti-OiNK campaign launched by Warner Music, EMI, Vivendi Universal and Sony BMG’s IFPI, looked good in the lamescream media. But when you get down to brass tacks, the only good it did was to spur P2P supporters on to greater feats of innovation.

The (International Federation of Phartographic Industry) wasted two years of tax-payer money and scarce police resources to bring down Alan Ellis’ OiNK, website which allowed users to search for music.

The likelihood of the Big 4’s IFPI being able to turn it into a successful anti-P2P, anti-consumer, anti-file sharing court case ranks about as high as the IFPI’s credibility.

But it played well on TV and in the newspapers. And that’s principally what it was meant to do.

Waffleswaffleswaffles and jam!

Meanwhile, OinK.cd now proudly displays an ad for waffles with the caption, “These are the waffles that taste really good according to google.”

Follow the link and you end up on The Pirate Bay guy Brokep’s blog, where you find a long list of sites to use instead of OiNK, or, ‘what to use instead of pink,’ at the foot of which is:

“Waffleswaffleswaffles and jam! Wondering about all the waffle talk? So do we. But piracy is waffles of the 21st century.”

What of BOiNK, mooted by TPB?

“Boink blows” p2pnet was told recently.

Meanwhile, what.cd and waffles.fm are poised to fill the vacuum left by OiNK.

“What.cd (currently offline at time of publication) was founded the day of the OiNK takedown,” says Torrentfreak, quoting What’s co-founder as saying, “We plan to grow into a large tracker – probably not as large as oink, and not as open, but eventually, I would like to support at least a hundred thousand users.”

Waffles.fm is, however, already online, saying:

Our goal is to become a great private music sharing community. If you have suggestions, do not hesitate to contact us!

This is a private tracker, and you have to register before you can get full access to the site. Before you do anything here at Waffles.fm we suggest you read the rules! There are only a few rules to abide by, but we do enforce them!

And on the intro page:

The sale of invites to this site (www.waffles.fm) is strictly forbidden and results in both the inviter and invitee losing their accounts.

Membership is free, users do not pay to have access to this site (www.waffles.fm). We do not make any profit from this website (www.waffles.fm).

We do not force our members to donate.

None of the files shown here are actually hosted on this server. The links are provided solely by this site’s users. The administrator of this site (www.waffles.fm) cannot be held responsible for what its users post, or any other actions of its users. You may not use this site to distribute or download any material when you do not have the legal rights to do so. It is your own responsibility to adhere to these terms.

Never forget. 10/23/07

The Big 4 certainly won’t ;)

Definitely stay tuned.

Been to both websites and What.cd is far better put together with friendlier staff/members. I don’t know the total statistics on the trackers but I was able to find way more music that I liked in more formats on what.cd than waffles.fm . I’ll still support waffles.fm because the OiNK tragedy taught me the importance of branching out.
