Power shirt with good vibes

p2pnet news | Product News:- Here’s a smart shirt with good vibrations.
Literally.
It’s a Flexible Integrated Energy Device (FIED), intended initially for the Australian military, but with future civilian applications – such as powering MP3 players.
CSIRO makes it and says it’s just received $A4.4 million in development funding and other country’s Defence Capability and Technology Demonstrator (CTD) Program.
Principal Research Scientist with CSIRO’s Energy Technology Division, Dr Adam Best, says the idea is: the technology will be incorporated into a piece of clothing and would comprise three components: advanced, conductive fabrics as part of the battery, vibration energy harvesting device and a rectifier/power management system to power soldiers’ electronic equipment.
It’ll look like ordinary clothing, “but have extraordinary capabilities,” says CSIRO’s Dr Adam Best.
“As the person wearing the garment moves, the vibrations they create can be harvested and channelled into recharging the battery or powering plug-in electronic device or devices.”
But smart shirts (or shorts
) will also have civilian uses such as poweringr portable entertainment players and sports wear, radios and mobile phones, medical systems such as vital sign monitors, and so on, says CSIRO.
It’ll be used to, “store and provide energy over a continuous period of time and can be charged by plugging into an electrical power point or through vibration energy harvesting,” says the company.
