Students love Classic Rock CDs

p2pnet news | Music:- It’s cool how when you log onto the Net, you never know where you’ll end up.

When I was putting Message to Big Music: Music is free! together, I saw another post from Rich Greenfield slugged Music, Social Networking and College Students, linking to AlwaysOn.

There, Jason Mendelson kicks off:

Every year I go back to the University of Michigan and spend a day teaching undergrads in the economics department.

The post is mostly about how “the uniformity of Facebook usage and the lack of any other social network in their [the students'] lives.

Sad, isn’t it?

But just as interesting are items 4, 5, 6 and 7 >>>

4 I asked how many of them ‘bought music legally.’ No more that 15-20% indicated that they bought music legally.

5 I asked how many of them ’stole music’ – 100%. And all but a couple indicated that a majority of their music was stolen.

6 Biggest concern of stealing music was not getting caught, it was that they ‘felt badly’ for stealing it.

Mendolson might also have asked them to define ’stealing’ because downloading a song doesn’t deprive someone of something they used to own.

Anyhow, item number 7 said, “Almost no one buys CDs, but those that do are all into classic rock and jazz (Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, AC/DC). I was relieved to discover that ‘classic rock’ is still ‘classic rock’.”

Why was Mendelson happy to find ‘classic rock’ is still what it is?

Because, “If the definition had become ‘Pearl Jam or Nirvana’ I would have had to kill myself.”

heh

Stolen? Free? Right? Wrong? Well… we all know that downloading isn’t legal. And we all know that there are many risks that come along with it. Not just the legal risks, but we are also opening our hard drives up to spy wares and viruses.
But, it is understandable that people love their music… yet, it can get really expensive to keep buying it.
Wanna know how to hear music for free while the artists still get paid? Listen to the radio! That’s right… every time a song airs, the artists get paid. While it’s not a huge amount, it is still something in their pockets and a free listen for you! I know… radio has too many commercials and there aren’t any stations that play what we really love, right? Wrong! You mentioned classic rock… well… have you checked out Lone Star 92.5? I work with them and can tell you right now, they play the best classic rock, outlaw country, alt. country, americana, and roots rock… all with almost NO commercials! You gotta check it out. Go to:

Well… what do you think of the site?
