On Noooo! Hollywood writers strike!

p2pnet news | RIAA News:- It’s happened !!! The end of the world is Nigh !!!

The Hollywood writers have gone on strike !!!

Oh NOOOOOOOOO!

“WGAE ON STRIKE!” – says WGA East. “All Guild-covered work under the MBA ceased at 12:01 a.m. EST on Monday, November 5, 2007.”

And, “Early today, the WGA completely withdrew its DVD proposal, which the Companies said was a stumbling block,” says WGA West.

It’s all about broadband and Net profits. WGA members want their fees increased when their work is on DVDs, online, on mobile phones and other ‘electronic devices’.

The companies, “still insisted on the following,” says WGA West

  • No jurisdiction for most of new media writing.
  • No economic proposal for the part of new media writing where they do propose to give coverage.
  • Internet downloads at the DVD rate.
  • No residual for streaming video of theatrical product.
  • A “promotional” proposal that allows them to reuse even complete movies or TV shows on any platform with no residual. This proposal alone destroys residuals.
  • A “window” of free reuse on the Internet that makes a mockery of any residual.

“Writers plan to picket 14 film and television studios in Los Angeles starting at 9 a.m. local time, including the lots of Walt Disney Co., News Corp.’s Fox, Sony Pictures, General Electric Co.’s Universal Studios, Warner Bros. and Viacom Inc.’s Paramount,” says Bloomberg News.

“In New York, pickets were planned for NBC headquarters at Rockefeller Center.”

But don’t panic, all you couch potatoes. Not just yet, anyway.

“Soap operas and talk shows will be the first productions affected, because they depend on writers for daily jokes and script changes,” says the story. “TV producers can hold out longer before scheduling reruns of dramas and comedies because they’ve stockpiled enough scripts to keep going for several months.

Movie studios have done the same.”

Phewwwww! That’s a relief !
