Hollywood writers strike hits Sweden
p2pnet news | Movies:- It often seems Sweden’s shadow government is in California —- in Hollywood, to be exact. So it doesn’t come as a big surprise to learn the Hollywood writers strike is reaching across the ocean to Scandinavia.
In a statement issued yesterday, “the Swedish Union of Playwrights expressed full support for The Writers Guild of America and urged fellow unions in Scandinavia to do the same,” says The Local.
“It’s the same battle both here and in the USA – it’s about the rights of writers to receive payment for the use of their manuscripts, no matter which media their work is presented in”, the story has Rolf Börjlind, chairman of the Swedish Union of Playwrights, saying.
Meanwhile, California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger was to terminate the action.
He’s, “assumed an unspecified backstage role to bring an end to the screenwriters strike,” says Guardian Unlimited.
“I’m talking to the parties that are involved because I think it’s very important that we settle that as quickly as possible, because it has a tremendous economic impact on our state,” Schwarzenegger said during a news conference at the state Capitol in Sacramento, according to the story, which adds:
“The governor, whose former action-hero persona was largely defined by his role as a gun-toting cyborg who gets things done in the ‘Terminator’ movies, still has many friends and connections in Hollywood.”
