p2pnet Music File Share Top Ten
p2pnet special | Music:- On Wednesday, we promised we’d revive the unique p2pnet File Share Top Ten.
So here it is. And we’ll be running these download charts every Saturday from now on.
The data come from BigChampagne, which began collecting information from the original Napster in 2002. Today it includes data from a huge variety of download and “treaming music and video online, traditional radio, traditional “bricks and mortar” retail, and more.
Does BigChampagne collect and report information about unauthorized or illegal P2P file sharing? It does. Because whether Warner Music, EMI, Vivendi Universal and Sony BMG like it nor not, the vast majority of online entertainment media are now acquired for free on P2P file sharing networks.
BigChampagne constantly measures them in real time using its own proprietary systems to gather information about file sharing and searches in much the same way that search engines collect information about public web sites.
But although it measures online content, it doesn’t track people.

Hey, like the p2p top ten, BUT WHERE’S THE COUNTRY CHART????? Fair is fair…country is geat music….can we get that included please???
November 10th, 2007 at 10:34 pm
Jeez…..you’d think the majority of downloaders would have better taste in music than people who only buy what they hear on the radio and MTV.
November 11th, 2007 at 10:26 am
well just think, a lot of the people who download are computer illiterate, for the most part. therefore, they probably use something like napster>kazaa>and now limewire. they couldnt download a torrent if it walked in the room.
and to be honest that is fine with me. meanwhile, ill download and support my non-riaa music bands, on all the little indie labels, and enjoy my music for years. as opposed to this corporate redundant drivel.
im not trying to be all haughty, or better-than-them acting, but you can really see a connection once you get to thinking about it.
when the people downloading ‘crank dat soulja boy’ get into it with the riaa, id still of course rather see the riaa go to hell. but jeez. ‘crank dat soulja boy’ does not immediately say to me “peerguardian user”.
/rambling rant.

I agree Bo.
Also Jon has said he has been including more material that is normally in what he calls the lamescream press to bring people here and open them to ideas they may not have come across before.
This kind of chart would also attract new people.

this is true, and more power to jon for that. its his site, and may he make millions from it.
ill visit either way.
November 11th, 2007 at 12:12 pm
“may he make millions from it …”
Choke, splutter, cough. heh
One of these days, it’d be nice to do more than just break even, if I do even that.
Against that, how many people can honestly say they’re satisfied with how they spend most of their days, and some of their nights?
There’s some really interesting stuff starting to happen with KapKids.com, which I’ll be posting about soon. And at home, we may be a bit broke, but we’re happy
Who could ask for more?
So thanks ……….
Cheers!

exactly. the wife and i run a freebie site, and yes, we just barely break even. i can empathize.
i dont need millions, but we are happy and that is all that matters, rich or poor.
but i can still wish millions UPON you. you have a great site that is constantly updated with great info, for a cause i feel strongly for. id wish millions upon mr beckerman too, but well, he IS a lawyer after all
November 11th, 2007 at 3:24 pm
What is your site Bo?
November 11th, 2007 at 4:28 pm
i hate to spam jon’s site, but its thefullmailbox dot com. very small forum with a lot of freebies and instant win games, and a small deal section that we dont put enough things in.

Hey,
I may not be torrent-ready, but most of what is on the above lists does not interest me. Really.
The radio stations here in MB don’t play much of what I like to hear, and I mostly listen to CBC Galaxy Adult Alternative on cable TV. There is some wonderful stuff on there, not all of it current, which you will never hear anywhere else.

can’t say I ever heard 95% of whats listed there. More reason on how p2p opens people to new/different artists and music.
What if p2p was to stop for a month? would these artists get the exposure or make the charts?

Ha, Ya, Crank that Soulja boy, downloaded that for free yesterday. Screw RIAA>
