A way to give thanks at Thanksgiving

Evans died tragically last month.
He and I worked together for a while and he sent me an anti-RIAA mug from which I still sip my morning coffee.
So I still think of him almost every day.
Almost exactly a year ago, “What a way to spend Thanksgiving,” Evans wrote, going on:
Several friends and independent musicians from Virginia are in the New Orleans/Slidell area of Louisiana playing free music for the people and in particular schools.
In addition to everything else that the people of NOLA and Slidell lost to Katrina, musical instruments were destroyed, washed away, or made just plain unusable.
Since we’re no longer seeing it on the news every day, we tend to forget about it. But there are still needs we in particular can help with.
Through WDBJ7, a local TV station in Roanoke, Virginia, indie musicians have arranged for the station to collect musical instruments, to be shipped to a Junior High School in Slidell, or can be shipped directly to the school. (Think Junior High School Band).

Since we here are about music, promoting it, getting paid for it, encouraging others to play and hopefully inspiring youth in the value of music, I was hoping those of you who have old instruments laying around, stuck in a closet, attic or basement might be willing to donate to the cause.
Or if the mood strikes you and you want to go out and buy from pawn shops, new, used, unused instruments, please feel free.

We’ve already had our Thanksgiving, here in Canada, but it’s only days away for you in the States.
As Bill said last year, we’re no longer seeing New Orleans on the news every day and we tend to forget about it. But, “there are still needs we in particular can help with.”
So if you have any musical instruments you don’t use any more, or you know someone who has, remember Bill Evans by remembering his message.
Because it applies as strongly today as it did in November, 2006.
