Amy Winehouse: ’slurring her words’

p2pnet news | Music:- It’d be interesting to do a count on how many top performers have serious drug and/or alcohol problems.

Lindsay Lohan recently decided she’d suffered enough because of her addictions, and Britney Spears was ordered to undergo mandatory drug testing as part of the child custody dispute between her and her former husband, Kevin Federline.

Paris Hilton was jailed after she violated the terms of her probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case, Canadian 24 star Kiefer Sutherland also landed in jail for booze related offences and, “They tried to make me go to rehab, I said, No, No, No,” sings Amy Winehouse in a YouTube video.

In fact, Winehouse kicked off her a just-started tour, “with a shambolic performance that saw fuming fans booing and marching out,” Agency France-Presse states, going on:

“Winehouse has had “health issues” – widely reported to be drug and alcohol abuse – and her party-loving husband Blake Fielder-Civil is being held on grievous bodily harm and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice charges.”

The story goes on:

Wednesday’s gig at the NIA, which can hold up to 13,000 people, was slammed by angry fans as a “disgrace” after she turned up late and stumbled about the stage.

When punters started jeering, Winehouse snapped: “Let me tell you something. First of all, if you’re booing, you’re a mug for buying a ticket.

“Second, to all those booing, just wait till my husband gets out of incarceration – and I mean that.”

AFP has James Dyas demanding his money back, quoting the Evening Standard newspaper.

“She came on stage half an hour late,” says the story. “She managed four songs but was slurring her words and swaying all over the place,” he said.

“She fell into the guitar stand and dropped the microphone – it was atrocious. The song dedicated to her husband was so bad it was like swinging a cat round your head.”

Sex ‘n’ drugs ‘n’ rock and roll

Drugs and booze are nothing new and Janis Joplin, another famous soul-singer, was destroyed by them.

Her, “rise to the forefront of rock and roll was meteoric and she fell prey to the excesses stardom offered,” says Rock’nRoll Heaven.

“Loneliness was a constant companion for Janis, who took solace in the bottle and continued to experiment with the prevalent drugs of the times. As her fame and drug use grew, her behavior became increasingly outrageous.”

The Beatles were infamous for their experimentation. And so on.

“Live fast and die young” tends to be all too true for many rock stars and pop stars, said a British study in September.
Starting three years after becoming famous, “rock stars and pop stars are almost twice as likely as the general public to die prematurely,” says the report, according to WebMD, which goes on, “Drugs and alcohol play a role in many famous musicians’ premature deaths, the study also shows.”

But pop stars aren’t the only ones to give into temptation.

“Endrik Wottrich, a popular fixture at the annual Bayreuth festival in Germany, has revealed opera singers are turning to drugs and other stimulants to cope with the pressure from the increasing commercial demands on them,” says Guardian Unlimited, going on to quote him as saying:

“No one talks about it, but doping has long been the norm in the music world. Soloists are taking betablockers in an attempt to control their angst, some tenors take cortisone to ensure their voices reach a high pitch, and alcohol is standard practice.”
(Thanks, Phil)
