Demonoid update: forum online

This forum is not file sharing related in any way, it’s just a mean to help the community stay together – please read the forum rules before posting. You can use your Demonoid account info to log in.
Click here and after a bit of a wait, you’ll see:
No torrent requests, links to torrents or links to other sites.
No warez links of sites that refer them.
No direct download links. Rapidshare, Megaupload and the like.
No spam, repeated posting, Free iPod, online poker or make money quick shit.
No requests for CD key/keygens/passwords/patch/serials.
No flaming.
No hacking discussions, this includes any discussion in respect to circumvention of electronic copy/system protection.
No Mod Chip discussions.
No links to porn/porn sites.
We tried to register to see the five posts which were up at 11:40 am PST but, “Sorry, registration is currently disabled.”

I quite agree. However, there have been attempts to sue them for it/still ongoing, I’m not sure. Jon would be more informed about this than me on this point.
Jon, I’d be grateful if you could tell us.
Google is of course a multi-billion dollar organization and can fight off the legal thugs for years, but the little guy is likely to go under pretty quickly…
You can’t help but notice how the torrent sites are going down one by one at each legal onslought. It seems obvious to me that, at some point not too far off, the operators are going to pack it in and these sites will be wiped out. All in the name of protecting fat corporate profits.
The only site to have so far survived a legal onslaught (well, several), is The Pirate Bay. However, with the new laws they are draughting and the latest attacks, I wonder how long they will last? I think their days are numbered, unfortunately.
I do wonder though, do these torrent sites actually link to a significant amount of non-copyright material, or is it 99% copyright stuff? I think it’s the latter, which rather weakens there legal arguments for existing, doesn’t it?

Wow this is like dejavu. Kind of reminds me when Suprnova went down and the forums split to just forums then they changed like 3-4 times.
I still wish these torrent tracker sites found a country they can call home. They really should be checking out Costa Rico. Pretty much every online poker site is based there.

i just check the site… and it gives information with regards to demonoids’ condition… hopefully they would be back.

I didn’t like Demonoid because it was a private site that I couldn’t get into so I sent an email that got it shut down. I didn’t like oink because it was a private site so I sent another email. It got shut down. No, of course that’s an absolutely stupid thing to say but my point is that the shutdown sites all seem to be private trackers that have registry information on users.
It’s the information on users that the **AA is after and they will get it any way they can. And when that information is forthcoming nothing will stop the greedy bastards that head these organisations.

Given the intelligence of the I.T industry and the ability of hackers, it’s only a matter of time before anoher form of file sharing will appear that the RIAA will struggle against. Long live the free internet!

Just to clarify why it’s only the private sites that are being shutdown, in publicly accessible sites (like piratebay) all peers can see your IP and therefore can directly threaten you with legal action or notify your ISP and let them threaten you. I recently found this out when Demonoid went down and I downloaded a copy of Adobe Creative Suite CS3 Professional from piratebay. Being as I own a licensed copy of the software it is legal for me to download an electronic backup copy of said software so long as I destroy any non-legitimate serials upon downloading, so I did so without a care. I destroyed the keys that came in the file as the laws demand. I received an email from my ISP (comcast) 2 days later saying that Adobe had notified them of an illegal download. I told them that I downloaded the program legally and they retorted with a “do it again and we’ll shut off your connection” reply letter. I suppose this is what I get for being lazy and not using a proxied connection but this is also the reason that I hate using public torrent sites. The guys at demonoid faced a shut down about a year and a half ago or so, then they were located in Sweden, 3 weeks later they were back up and running after relocating to Canada. I can only hope, like the rest of you, that they move as swiftly to relocate the servers again this time. We can only hope that they are back up before Christmas. This is one group of administrators that I would say your registration information is safe with. They will destroy the registration information files before they allow the data to fall into the wrong hands. Have faith, we are many and can not be silenced forever.
